Player Discussion Arber Xhekaj the Sheriff Returns Edition

Except Xhekaj won't counter Washington. Its not a single caps player that is playing physical. Its the whole team, so a single habs player isn't going to counter that.

The habs should also not try to play a more physical game than the Capitals because that's simply a battle they will not win. The caps are just a bigger and tougher team. The habs should focus on what they are good at which is speed and forecheck. We saw that in the last half of the 3rd period, and the caps had trouble dealing with it.

That said I would put Xhekaj in the lineup, but that's because he brings more to the table than Struble who is a bit vanilla.

Arber going in has 2 effects:
1. Physics. WIFI taking up space and battering anyone coming into his orbit protects part of the slot.

2. Morale. Even non hitting Caps are hitting and the hitters are who get them going. We need the same, especially in front of our net.

Mid season X was simply bullying everyone at will and getting away with it. And of course, NOBODY would do anything about it. In the playoffs, extra bullying is mandatory and acceptable.

i wonder if anyone is advising him on what not to do. As soon as Guhle came back, he should of been on his best behavior and played simple, effective hockey. Instead he blew it and gave SMarty the excuse to bench him.

I'm not sure he's going to see the ice again unless we are down 3-0 and SMarty feels there is nothing to lose. Otherwise right now, he's even a worse liability because he out for 13 games and is going to handle the puck like a grenade.

Unless...SMarty watches the video tapes of Struble not clearing the puck on multiple tries and losing board battles...in the same shift. And of course bringing his pillow and snoozing on the second goal. IF SMarty was truly measuring on meritocracy, that should be the trigger to change.

Soo..take out Struble for X, who is stone cold.

Tough decision of SMarty own making...

I don't see how we win that game last night with Jackeye , people are acting like he is some crazy x factor or like we got blown out lol

Listen I want the Axe in too but it's a tiny upgrade at best
I may be wrong, but a lot of the physicality I have seen last night from any Caps could be lessened quite a bit by having the X factor in the lineup. A lot of these players are very empowered to hit someone but they certainly don't want to answer their hits with a fight, especially against X.

So, it's not like X makes great plays that will make a difference, it is rather that the likes of Caufield, Hudson, Guhle may have more space to do their things.

If our d keeps on getting smashed into the end boards like last night with impunity, someone will be injured sooner than later. If their forwards receive some motivation to not smash our players into the end boards, then it is less likely that one or more of our d will get injured.

So although X is not some X-factor on the score board, he could be on how Washington forwards act in our zone.

I have witnessed his mere presence deter teams.

Absolutely, his presence alone makes it less likely someone gets injured from a nasty hit. I saw lots of comments here saying it would have no preventive effect whatsoever by having Xhekaj on the ice. Mind boggling

We all agree on this and many medias says the same. Arber plays for the Habs since 3 years now. He played simple basic good hockey before and not mentioning how good he is as a fighter. There is a serious problem with MSL or Habs management. If they don't use him, why don't they trade him? He must have value around the league. This is the time when Habs are getting beaten and intimidated. Gally got a crosscheck in the face and refs didn't do anything. I can't accept Habs to get beaten without a fight back and some punishment from Arber. All this is mind bogging.

Nothing. He'll get away with NOTHING. He'd be an easy target for the refs and they'd ignore Washington's players

So you're saying that a Caps defensemen can get away with a crosscheck in Gally's face a take down on Suzuki after the whissel but X couldn't........why.

I want wifi in so that he can get Wilson and Ovechkin off their game. Punish them every chance.
It'll never happen but it's really Matheson who has to sit..

We are are relentless and we sure love to pile on our coaches. Going from MTHead to SMarty, it appears like we will never be satisfied. We want to win so hard, we put a lot of pressure and expectations on the coach position in Montreal. Winning is the only cure to that.

That being said, I too would like to see Arber on the ice next game. I could see a situation-based utilization (more icetime early in the game while the Caps are trying to intimidate us). Anyhow, I am pretty convinced we will dress Xhekaj in Montreal, more so if we go 0-2, as it will be easier to manage matchups at home.

EDIT : About the name-calling (coach, player, other poster or anyone really), I recognized I'm not confortable with it. It's probably not the intention most of the times, but when I come across this in a post, I feel it does less to promote the idea/opinion behind it than it does to fuel negative emotion toward the person. I feel it often use to belittle, degrade, or dehumanize someone, and to instill a sense of superiority. I find it taps more into emotion that reason, and, overtime, reinforces sterotypes and can even create a sense of "us vs. them" (the haters vs the fanboys). I think It is because we deal more easily with a difference in ideas, than a difference in emotion. If I feel anger, I feel better if other feel it too, so I share it, and sometimes I amplify it, especially in a group situation (like a forum). In the end, I feel name-calling is often a way hate/anger can be stoked and sustained. I think that's why I am unconfortable with it. Sorry for the long rant. Now you can call me names ;)

Had Gally done the crosscheck last night, does he get a penalty? I bet he does
The game is not fair. We live in a corrupted world, we will lose anyway. So why not lose with knukles on the face and blood on the ice? Caps will have to suffer, they will have to face the Sheriff. I prefer that scenario over the take the hits and not doing anything.

Arber is a huge upgrade. A few broken rib cages on Caps players. Possibly Wilson and Ovi can't take free shots on our little guys without serious retribution.

I would love to see Xhekaj level Ovechkin.

Ovechkin is 6'3 238 lbs, and Wilson is 6'4 225 lbs. Both play a very physical game and are as big as Xhekaj.
Playing physically against them won't throw them off their game.

Xhekaj might scare Strome and McMichael, but definitely not Wilson and Ovy.

Gally tried to cross check just as bad as ge was cross checked.. difference is reach.. when you have trex arms you look scary but but are never winning boxing rounds.

A crosscheck in the face is a crosscheck in the face, no matter how many crosscheck those 2 have exchange only one hit the orher guy in the face........Caps player should have got a penalty end of the story.
