Player Discussion Arber Xhekaj the Sheriff Returns Edition

You make it sound like he's been sent home and being kept away from the team. He has access to ice and players, he even set a personal best for games played this year with 70.

The time for players to play through mistakes and develop isn't the playoffs. And unless we are the ones sweeping Washington I would expect Xhekaj to get some playoff games. How many will depend on how he plays when he does get in and how far the team goes.
I'm talking through the summer.

When are we gonna see Arber? After Wilson decapitates someone?

That or after a loss depending when & how. Marty is stubborn when team is winning so I don't expect him for game 1. Even game 2 is a stretch. Feels more likely we will see him somewhere in games 4-7. I hope

hopefully habs brass realize 'a team' is not made up of 19 similar pieces and understand what he brings is unique. But who the f*** knows?
I think he's 100% full time next year.
As I've posted numerous times, when he's gone - which would suck since Florian is here - many will start crying about how we lack toughness or they'll whine about the league not doing a proper job deterring / protecting players.
It's amazing to me, that there isn't a bottom pairing spot for him. We haven't had a nuclear deterrent in 3+ decades.
It seems personal with the amount of leash MSL gives other players
What about Brashear or Parros? I think the issue with Xhekaj is he keeps making simple mistakes which lead to bad penalties.. until he can prove to be a net positive, it's tough to roster a player to go and fight in todays NHL.

True, but he seems to have a much shorter leash than others, and this affects his confidence

If we were out of it prior to the TDL.. im sure Xj would have played more.. weve litterally been in a 50 game playoff push.. not sure the last time we did this? 08 maybe?

you're right. and Savard seems to be the emotional ambassador of the team - like weber -and they're not going to pull him from the lineup because they know he's retiring and MSL has made calculation that they'll give those bottom pairing mins to him.
Struble arguably, seems to have done enough consistently to remain in lineup.
The being said, If capitals come out trying to kill on monday, i'd like to think the coach would reinsert X back into the lineup

Hes more reliable than AX. He has proven his worth in the playoffs too. AX has proven nothing.
Hard to prove much from the press box, no? Any time he does anything that Marty doesn’t like, he’s banished instantly. Nobody else has that short of a leash. Nobody. If it was a meritocracy, David would have been sitting several times.

And old David Savard was reliable yes… the present day version of David Savard is like one of those great big oversized, steel frame caddies that could haul around a buffalo because they were so massive. Now it’s falling apart and worth little, and should be scrapped.

Savard's experience, shot blocking abilities and his strong PK skills keep him in the line up.
The only reason Struble is playing is that he is a slightly better skater than Arber. Struble hasn't exactly been that good in recent games. Arber is NHL quality, it's a numbers game at this point.
He imo will be a regular next season or he will be a major piece in a huge trade this summer (I hope not).

If you take a peak at Arber’s latest Insta story, you would understand that the kid is peeved, to say the least. He shared and integrated in his story a message from a fan that asks that the Habs ‘free’ him.

He also added another comment from another fan related to Roy being sent down to Laval, indicating Arber would prefer being sent down to Laval than staying in Mtl and not playing.

you sure that was actually his account? because there's nothing like that on his stories and no one is talking about anything like this on twitter

So stupid to consider bringing Jackeye in after experiencing the physicality of the playoffs, possibly at the expense of an injury.

Bring him in now, let Caps know we have someone capable of retribution to keep them in line, it'll also give our guys a boost knowing Arber has their backs. Anderson can't and shouldn't handle the burden alone.

This is playoff hockey (and has been for a few weeks)… You don’t play a guy because he can fight. They don’t fight in playoffs. And you can’t run guys in retaliation bedause of the stakes. Man up, kids. And/or learn from it.

They will probably run with the guys that got them there and it has nothing to do with the org not liking the guy.

I enjoy watching him play like all of you btw, totally my type of player.

The Habs went to the finals on the back of Price and defensemen like Xhekaj (Weber, Chiarot, Edmundson, Romanov, Merrill) who made his life easier.

Not playing him is a mistake, he was part of the push post 4Nations, more than Struble.

Not sure I’d compare Arber and Weber, but of course playoff hockey is tough. What you can’t do is fight or retaliate. I’m sure he’d be fine incidentally, but remove those skills.

You still play Hutson 30 minutes and cannot pair him with Arber.. It’s ok if you have Arber ahead of Struble, I think the latter deserves to be there.
