Player Discussion Arber Xhekaj the Sheriff Returns Edition

Lets see if he can play 5 consecutive games first.
Make whatever scenario you want in your head.

You're not exactly a level headed poster capable of having an opinion on a player that stretches more than what happened in the last month but the guy came back early from his injury and now they are following a rehab plan.

Everyone who ever has gone through a rehab knows that you slowly increase the work load and that it is normal to feel discomfort and to rest.

But, you do you.

Sorry to break it to you, but Reinbacher didn’t make the last trip with Laval not because it was precautionnary but because he got injured again and he was day to day as per Pascal Vincent himself.

Lol, that's what you're referring to? Even worse.

An injury so minor that he's already skating with the Habs got your panties in a bunch?

Sorry to break it to you, but your boy Xhekaj had to have two shoulder surgeries that made him miss MUCH more time than Reinbacher.

Like I said, you can't think past 1 month out.

If you can’t see that Reinbacher is pilling up the injuries since being drafted, jesus, you need to get you eyesight tested.

Injured his knee in WC before his draft.
Injured his hand/thumb last years missing times.
Injured his knee this season missing almost all season
Injured something, though minor one, even if he was on precaution play.

I’m pulling for him to be healthy and good for us. But let’s see him play a 5 games strech of high tempo games without getting hurt and we’ll see.

All those things you've listed and there's only one injury. Every players get banged up a miss a few games here and there.

You weren't singing that song when Xhekaj had to have two season ending surgeries.

Anyway, there's no reasoning with you as your takes are emotions driven and not logic driven.

Have a good day 🍻

I watched his knee wobble when getting up on the sixth game he played...and was out for a few games.

I watched him short stride on a long skate to get the puck on the second game when he came back.

This isn’t "guessing", this is actually watching the game and repeating it on slo-mo to make sure what i saw.

Rein was rushed back and Vincet threw him into the deep end, playing him 23 and 25 minutes on his second and third game back.

I don't know if his future is in question, but he definitely has knee problem that needs to heal...or fix.

Arber even on his wrong side is better than Savard.
That was pretty evident in the last game, I know Matheson makes mistakes, but he’s playing huge minutes against top lines, Savard on the other hand doesn’t seem to do anything well, can’t skate, can’t shoot, he’s in the lineup to lay on the ice during the pk, and block shots. If Savard gave us 10 minutes of solid D I could see keeping Arber out of the lineup, but Savard isn’t a solid Dman anymore, not to mention when teams throw their weight around I want Arber out there. It will be a real shame if we keep him out during the playoffs, reminiscent of when we played Merril, Gustavsson etc over Romanov.

No, you shouldn't.

There is a strong possibility he's not going to be a fixture on our defense next season.
And this troubles me. Everyone knows a team needs 1-2 physical specimens to keep the opponents honest and from abusing your smaller skill players. If we lose AX, who do we have to fill that void? And please don’t say Pezzetta….although I admire his tenacity and perseverance , he just is not any good at enforcing and adding skill to his position.

I don’t want Josh Anderson dropping his gloves like he used to and do you really want to see Guhle having to do this, even though he doesn’t mind at times? Struble doesn’t seem to be a fighter, even though he does like to hit people.

So who do we have? I’d love to get Deslauriers back…we never should have let him leave when he did.

It’s time for Albert to wake the f*** up and start playing solid hockey again. We need 15-18mins a game from him of solid hockey.
With so many rookie superstars in our lineup, we need him there to police the games in the playoffs.

He does need to play better without a doubt. Habs need him in the playoffs but he has to play better.

Arber is on MSL black list, he's too physical for this smurf team.

He’s like Gargamel, he's MSL worst nightmare.

He has been beaten out by Struble...

Hard to keep them both in the line-up. Struble is playing a safer game... so I kinda get it... but I miss the big guy...

I say he makes it into the line-up for the playoffs and demolishes some people!

I think we'll have to clinch on Monday for Xhekaj to get back into the lineup.

I've watched 1000's of hockey games in the past 50 years and will readily admit that I have about 10% of Marty's hockey knowledge. Coaches coach to win, so if thinks we have a better chance of winning without Xhekaj in the lineup I'll assume he's right.

I agree with you that MSL thinks hes right, but I disagree with you that he is right.

Im in your boat, 10% of the knowledge MSL has. But you know we have seen countless coaches / GMs who make terrible decisions. Fighting for a spot, let alone being in the post season , you need size, toughness and truculence.

Those elements cannot come at the expense of basic game sense. Habs are 6-2 in the last 8gp, MSL doesn’t need to rock the boat, he’s done perfectly well fighting for a spot.

Xhekaj lost Marty’s trust. He had all season to build his case and he failed to do so. He won’t be the first player or the last to end up in this position.

The next opportunity Xhekaj gets might be his final one. He has to be patient, earn it, and keep it. He’s an undrafted player, it was always going to be uphill for him — his CV, so to speak, is nothing worth talking about.

Irrelevant.
