Just as bad as purposely playing a suboptimal lineup in an elimation game to teach Bunting a lesson is the message it sent to everyone else. Their level of play in the last two games was not good enough, and falling behind in games is not a recipe for success. Keefe sent the message that there were no improvements to be made, and the Leafs are playing like they had no interest in improving for this game

This game was there for the taking. Lightning weren’t exactly dominant tonight. They just sat back and played the usual game.

The Leafs played this game with the intensity of a regular season game.

For a core that's lost in the first round 6 straight times...that's telling. Even if they make it past the Bolts the Leafs season is ending against Boston.

They just don't get it. They don't get the benefit of teams like Tampa or Boston bc they've done everything there is to do in the NHL. The Leafs are playing game 5 like they're the ones who've won everything there is to win in the NHL.
