Yeah, we have a good sized house, but not like we have a mansion or anything. I'll just settle for the living room for the time being with the knowledge that my wife goes to bed a lot earlier than me and let the basement be the kid space. Have several years before that'll be an issue at least, though.

This is so much my life right now. My wife is a nurse who has to get up 2 hours before me as it is and is currently 8 months pregnant so she's always tired. So almost every night I'm up for a few hours by myself after she goes to bed.

We have a basement fridge. Not so much for beer, but the overflow like you mentioned. It's helpful for sure. Came with the place when we bought.

Yeah, going to essentially be our drink and frozen foods fridge. Smaller than our kitchen fridge, but the one we have current is that dumb fridge/freezer side by side design that merely results in not being able to fit as much in each, so it'll be nice to have a huge amount of soda, beer, and larger frozen meals in there while leaving the main fridge for smaller stuff. This'll be a traditional freezer on top, fridge on bottom kind.

ahhh the best way to resolve the freezer is to go haunting and or fishing.

shot what is an over population .... wild pigs/hogs. then dress that kill and keep a good record of what you put in the freezer bag. load up on fish and yeah, oysters. next get a nice selection of wild turkeys and keep a good record of them and esp the dates.

also stack up on frozen veggies ......

nice you are ready for anything that happens.

When we bought the place, the owner just gave us the fridge in the garage for "free". Guy was a stingy SOB too, he absolutely refused to give his shed, but he had no problem just giving the fridge. Stupid hot real estate market.

Garage fridge is mainly for bulk liquids ie La Croix, La Croix, and more La Croix. I really stopped drinking pop so I go to Costco and buy 5-6 cases at a time. Pretty much addicted to the stuff.

Also, on Friday (tentatively), I will get my first full fledged bonus check that actually feels like a quantum leap forward on my finances. I paid off my student loans this year, now this knocks the wife's down in half. After 18 months with this current company, I finally get it (joined at end of a cycle).

Granted, I didn't get bonus checks because I kept job hopping for the last 5 years :naughty:

Congrats! Bonuses are fun until you see how hard they tax them.

My raise goes into effect on my next check, I believe. So I'm pumped for that. Been waiting like 6 weeks for it.

I know... trying to figure out that effective tax rate right now actually. I always thought it was somewhere around 30%.

Edit: Figured it out.... 22% federal supplemental + 7.65% medicare/ss + 0% state tax :thumbu: = 29.65%.

If you know a big bonus is coming, could you not change your deduction to say “5,” collect 95% of the money, then change it back to whatever it normally is so you are not giving them the no interest loan? Or is it too risky/not feasible?

It's not difficult to do, but I'm pretty sure that would qualify as tax evasion or tax fraud... but I'm not a tax attorney or accountant, so don't quote me on it.

Yeah, I'm dumb, this can be disregarded.

That's another good point.

Since we are paying 30%-35% taxes, won't this mean come tax season, we should see a good chunk of that back?

With the adjustments made with the new tax plan, it's a good possibility, IMO. A lot of it depends on your tax bracket, I would guess.

Bonus checks get taxed as gifts for me, nothing you can do about it, dependents or not. Taxed closer to 40% to boot.

I get a couple a year, but that's also railroad payroll, which is the most convoluted nonsense I've ever dealt with.

You could put your deductions to 99 and get a fat check, you'll just have to take the hit at tax time and make up the difference. Lots of guys do it for a check or two before Christmas.

True, didn't think about the fact that it gets reported to the IRS either way, as income. You just end up paying that back once you do your taxes at the start of the new year, so I guess it wouldn't matter if you wanted to change it and get a huge check from your bonus. Eventually, you'll have to make good on it. I think I misread/misunderstood what CS was getting at, actually, now that I re-read what he said. Or I just had a brain cramp moment.

I'm dealing with a lender that is either extremely old and doesn't understand how emails work or extremely young and is just a complete and utter moron, and I don't know which is the case.
