I remember the good old days when we had a GM with an actual coherent plan for team building.

How would you compare the Jokerit team and organization that Kekäläinen quite recently build and the Blue Jackets of this season? What parallels can we draw upon the two organizations?

I don't remember these days you speak of. The knock against Howson was that it was difficult to see an overall identity in his teams. Was it 'Hitch hockey'? Was it the speed and offense game he promised when he hired Arniel?

It seemed like he was constantly switching gears in the identity he was trying to build. I thought dark blue jacket did a good job summarizing a few years back.

I don't know Jokerit well enough to say.

Well find out... The key to understanding Jarmo Kekäläinen are the two rival, Helsinki-based teams HIFK and Jokerit that he build as his monuments in time. First one in the 90's and the second one at the 2010's.

Hint: professional, holistic approach to the sport. Culture of work unites both.

Ossi Väänänen. John Klingberg. Erik Karlsson.

I remember the good old days when there were lockouts and the Jackets were on the same plane as the rest of the league, something they've never been able to do on the ice.

In so many of the past failures, I was able to at least joke or find some positive. Not any more. The faceplant after the 08-09 playoff season severely wounded my fandom. This one may kill it.

If only there were someone with such knowledge that could be shared with this forum.

I think the names you can draw from both teams (for example from Eliteprospects) speak for example what kind of build or player types Kekäläinen has favoured or has his ever-watching eye upon even now.

Some of them are future or prior NHL players for example. Some of them are connected to the names in the current organization.

Väänänen. Heatherington. Carlsson.

I remember being at the very first game vs Chicago and the Jackets got up 3-0 and I was telling my wife that the Jackets were awesome and will be the first expansion team to win the Cup in the first year. They lost the game 5-3. FYI They didn't win the Cup that year.
I remember going to a game vs Boston when Guerin was with them and the Jackets lost something like 10-0 or 10-1. I actually started cheering for Boston late in the game.
I remember going to a game vs Anaheim, I think, when the Jackets were ahead by 2 with under 2 minutes to go and lost.
I remember THE Pens game. If you are a Jackets fan you know which one I am talking about. When the Pens fan rode around on the Zamboni.
Yeah things were much better back then.
Not sure whether to laugh or cry at this point.

I also remember playing anaheim and being down like 2 or 3 goals with only a few minutes left. And somehow we ended up winning the game in regulation.

Personally, I miss "Oh no, my home!" Also known as OH NOES MAI HOME. Saved By Zero. Happy Pony. The eternal war between Socks and Samkow over the quality of Skyline. I miss Macserv and the Viqsibot (the losing was never its fault, you ********!) and the rest of the game day chat. I miss my half-star :p

Let's face it. The good old days appear to be gone. I tried a Skyline sucks last game. Nothing really happened. I miss the ALL CAPS FOR LUCK. And then Sammy would go all lower caps to rebel. Those were good times.

ALL CAPS FOR VICTORY

I still have the bot's code stashed somewhere. It's just that my schedule nowadays is such that I'm rarely near my laptop during a game and chatting on my cellphone is hateful.

VICTORY! God how did I forget that it was victory. And yes chatting on the phone is heinous.
