Anyone knows how to get rid of raccoons?

Basically, I have a huge raccoon problem in my backyard.

About 10-15 years ago, groundhogs dug a bunch of tunnels under my backyard shed. It wasn't really properly installed (the wood is directly on the grass, so no rock foundation or anything).

So the groundhogs didn't really bother me that much. I even left water and stuff for them.

Now the problem is that the groundhogs have recently been evicted by raccoons, and there's a lot of them.

Now my neighbors are complaining.

I was thinking of making a big mixture of bleach, windshield washer, ammonia and rubbing alcohol (or something like that) and pouring buckets of it all around the shed. The problem is that the shed is near two neighbors' backyards and I don't want to destroy their flowers.

Anyone has a suggestion? I don't want to destroy the shed even if it's in a sorry state.

If you have a problem with huge raccoons, you might want to call the military. :sarcasm:

I'd contact an exterminator if they deal with raccoons, or animal control. No need to kill the lot.

You could also get some "have a heart traps" and relocate them to out in the country. Realistically that's what I would prob do. I don't have the heart to actually kill something. Maybe keep a youngin for myself. Always wanted a trash panda.

Called the exterminators.

Apparently they're going to come to trap them and then take them out of town so as to not kill them.

Fine.

I just hope they don't come in a big truck with "EXTERMINATOR" written in big letters and park it in front of my place. That will be a bit embarrassing.

Sure they will.

There'll be a big plastic cockroach mounted on the hood of the truck, too, so you know they mean business. And they'll walk to and from the truck in hazmat suits.

OK so they installed three big trap cages and I'm supposed to call them as soon as one of them closes so they can come and pick it up and replace it

The guy warned me that there could be not only raccoons, but skunks and groundhogs as well.

Also, if the trap catches squirrels or stray cats I'm supposed to let them go by myself.

Oh boy.

And they charged you for this service?

Sounds like you're doing their work for them.

Yeah but if I get sued by the neighbors because they say my yard attracts raccoons and the raccoons caused damaged to their property, I can use the receipt from the exterminators as an example of due diligence on my part...

In my province you just go to the dept. of nat. resources and they loan you the traps for free. Having said that I hope you are successful in getting rid of the problem.
