Any players refuse to do the playoff beard thing?

it's been a thing for 30+ years

again, a thing where almost EVERY player is growing a beard or some sort of facial thing (Kassian?)

20 years ago you are looking at Stanley Cup photos, and maybe 5 or 6 guys are growing it, and it is seeming every year it is getting more and more to now it is seeming EVERY guy is growing something

yeah i think it started to become more and more of a trend during the early 2000s

i remember a good number of players in the '03 finals had grown them out on both sides and then by '07 i remember basically the entire ducks team had them

J.S. Giguere had a pretty impressive beard during the Ducks 2003 cup run, but he remained pretty clean shaven during the 2007 playoffs. He said something about his beard irritating him underneath his mask in a later interview.

1. Watch a playoff game on TV
2. Look at the players' faces
3. When they turn around, note their name
4. Make your list.

Lidstrom and Russian 5

Not true at all. Lidstrom didn't shave in the playoffs (doesn't mean he could grow a beard though). The Russian 5 couldn't grow a beard either. Larionov, Fedorov, Kozlov, Konstantinov could grow patchy at best beards, and Fetisov could only grow on his chin...

There's a lot of confusion in here. Most people are assuming the guys that can't grow a beard means they're not participating. Guys, they just aren't shaving... you can't tell because a lot of guys don't have big glorious grizzly adams beards.

The playoff beard thing started a looong time ago. Not 10-15 years ago. I think a bigger deal was made out of it in the last 10-15 years because it has become part of the hockey mythos.

Though in the early 80s I remember it being about 50/50 with guys on the teams doing it.

I see this myth is still alive and well.

The myth has encouraged young men to shave their peach fuzz for decades, and unless you want a bunch of seventeen year olds running around with fluffy white goatees, this functional societal myth will be maintained.

Playoff beards have lost their meaning with so many players sporting beards all year.

I've never seen Feds, Iggy, or Koz with anything even remotely resembling a beard.

He did shave between rounds, not sure if he took everything or if he just fixed it so he would continue being the perfect human being.

The Sedins always have perfectly sculpted goatees.

I think almost everyone tries, for the guys who don't seem to have beards are usually young like the Flames core, Toronto's young guys, etc. and they just can't grow beards yet, or in the case of Geno they just don't have the genetics for it.

Most tend not to shave, sort of like No shave November just during the playoffs. However some players either hate it thus they refuse to, or physically can't. Then there are some players like Patrick Kane who grows a mullet for the playoffs since his beard is of a spattering of hair follicles.

Ottawa seem to be embracing the playoff beards. Most of the lineup are growing one. Some are just letting their existing goatees get untidy. Zack Smith has the best one. Honourable mentions to Anderson and Brassard. Claesson had one before the playoffs.

The worst is Turris - who looks like he's trying but you can hardly tell.
