Speculation: Any interest in Liljegren for a mid round pick?

I like a lot of what Treliving has done lately but being complicit in tanking Liljegrens value like this is pretty poor asset management.

Liljegren played 19:40 last year. He had top 4 deployment for the majority of his games. On a good team. As a youngish RHD. At 5v5 he's at least slightly above-average at everything except physical play and has won his minutes with scoring chances and actual goals for his entire career. This is not someone they should be struggling to move if they wanted to but signing him to a multi-year deal before keeping him in the press box to start the year is a great way to tarnish the asset.

Obviously Berube does not like him as he wants a more physical player but then you move him in the offseason before signing him, or just sign him for 1 year and still move him before games start.

Sandin/Liljegren were viewed as similarly valuable when they were on the Leafs and Sandin got a 1st rounder...
As a Leaf fan I was shocked that Sandin got a 1st rd pk and then signed a 4.6 mil contract
Same size as Ljiligren
Sandin LD

Ljiligren RD
RD are more in demand

Sandin would not be playing for Berube

When Rielly was out fir 10 games, Ljiligren had a stretch 0when he was the Leafs best dman then Keefe started playing games with him.

Ljiligren needs a change of scenery

How appealing...

How about someone in his age bracket?
If you're interested in Mario Ferraro, I've always felt like a straight swap of him and Liljegren seemed fair value-wise. Two youngish players who could rebound into top-4 D in better situations.

If you need a cheap #7 RHD, Jack Thompson could be an option. I don't think he ever gets better than a passable #6D but he's solid and I like him.

The Ferraro thing is one of the better offers I've seen, even if it doesn't help the cap issue.

We've got our own Thompson in Timmins, so no thanks there.

What's up with Bordeleau?

He's been injured since before training camp and hasn't played yet this season. They're calling him "week-to-week" but don't have a timetable.

Not sure if he would have made the Sharks or not, but he's waiver-exempt this season.
