Holy moly!! Has there ever been a guy as big as him who can skate like THAT?! I can see why we’re so enamored by his tantalizing skill set and size. This dude is a unicorn. Our defense is really good right now but it’s going to be off-the-charts in a few seasons when Silayev is here.

starting this out of order because i know what everyones gonna want to read first
  • big fight today! held his own, got plenty of shots in. SCH was desperate for a scrap toward the end of the game and kept chasing TOR skaters around. big man decided to answer the bell for them. enjoy: https://video.khl.ru/quotes/1802083/
  • sneaky dangerous offensively again. in his DY i had complimented his off puck movement as something that felt like it could lead to a bit more activations/participation long term, and ill now add to that his sense of timing off the puck. good examples today of creeping up at the right time and being ready to pounce on a loose puck or find a pass in front
  • liked one specific rush today. set up for a block but the guy got stripped by a backchecker, so silayev grabbed the puck, quickly got it over to his F, and continued full speed up the ice for a dangerous tap in chance. SCH kinda lost him for a sec so it wasnt the most contested route to the net, but the big man covers a lot of ground deceptively fast. i think for a team like ours, factoring in the personnel we already have, this type of quick defense to offense counterattack stuff is gonna be a major component of how he can help push play and generate chances, so i like seeing him involved
  • extra good with those neutral zone/own blue line step ups today (its pretty much just surfing, i suppose i should start using the real term eventually lol). hard to beat when he picks his spots so well
  • solid passing plays today. took his time, assessed lanes, made good decisions. not perfect per se, but noticeably solid. lots of small area plays, too. kept it simple and effective a lot of the time. even caught him looking ahead before rimming the puck around the boards at one point, which was very welcomed lol
  • one caveat to his puck movement is that hes been having some trouble keeping passing plays onside while hes at the point, but i think i have an explanation for that. remember earlier in the year i kept saying that so much of his involvement from the blue line was throwing nothing shots toward the net, and only occasionally hed go for a skate with it? to me, i think this is just another attempt to expand his game and we're watching the learning curve with it. some misfires for now, but he looks to be figuring out the right touch for making point to point passes, and its exciting in a way because i wouldnt really say this was a big part of his game a few months ago. something to revisit
  • on the negative side, though, i didnt like a decision he made on the 1st SCH goal. was at the point when he saw opp D down low looking for a breakout and he chose to gap up on the F along the boards. now, he did negate the guy from play, but it gave SCH an option up the middle in transition and left more of the responsibility on the backcheckers to stop it (which they didnt). id rather he drop back early and keep himself in the play even if it means SCH has that breakout opportunity up the boards (and, in fairness, he usually approaches it this way)
good stuff today. i dont wanna make it sound like hes made huge strides and we should expect a lot of points in his future, but i like the offensive side of things gradually being built up without really compromising his bread and butter

He seems to be coming along nicely. Hopefully by the time he gets to the NHL he will have learned how to cheap shot the best players on the other team.

Still hate the pick, better dmen were available that offer more and we passed for size because Fitz is a size queen and dumb ass. He's a giant and skates well.
I know you want attention so Im giving it to you

Every body knows you. If Fitz would draft Dickinson or Solberg or Buium no matter who would be picked you would still tell the same story. You can repeat it again and again.

Silayev is number 1 player(not defenseman, but player) in points for U19 players in KHL now, he is best all time for U19 defenseman with his result, very close to be best for U20 and his stats are the same as Orlov had as 19yo player. With better physicality and skating.
Silayev is the best in all time total points for U18 player in KHL too. Not the best ppg, but points - he is number 1 player.

Fitz drafted better defensive defenseman - thats what he wanted, thats what he did. Buium or Dickinson can and most likely will become better offensive defensemen, but I believe Fitz wasnt interested in offensive defenseman with Luke, Nemec and Casey in the roster.

And yes, I know you will never understand it or most likely you are already understanding it but you just want to make your things. Again and again.

Being giant and skating well is extremely rare.

There are many ways to impact a game. We just watched Jaccob Slavin be as impressive as any player in a tournament loaded with hall of famers.
