Speculation: Another year of this Bluc **** (The 2024 season thread)

Jeannot/Helenius/Gadjovich would've been a MENACE against EDM.

Except you need a coach who will actually play him. Helenius was there, but got like 34 seconds of ice time. Even surrounded by those two, I doubt Hellen Hiller would have played that 4th line even close to watch any other real coach would do. The guy shrunk/choked.

Hoven did an interview with Marco Sturm in his latest episode of the podcast (Episode 230). Key takeaways:
- Loss in AHL playoffs was a shock, but obviously not good enough. Playoffs are an opportunity to grow and you try to learn from your experiences from the past. Had higher hopes either way.
- End of season recap on players:
Francesco Pinelli: Good kid. Needed to figure things out. It's normal. Had a good summer and stepped in right away. Had a really good stretch where you think "this kid has something." Just needs to be more consistent. Right now he's a good fit as a third-line center. Could play in a bigger role though.

Martin Chromiak: Has a lot of gifts that people don't have. But needs to be more consistent and harder on pucks. These are reasons why you sometimes don't see him. He's proud of how he played in the second half. Glen Gawdin and Charles Hudon helped him a lot.

Andre Lee: He gets a lot of credit for making the team out of training camp. He deserved it. It took about 10-12 games to get him back to the way he was after being sent back down to the AHL. He's not worried about him. You can use him anywhere. Like Iafallo

Aatu Jamsen: Had a tough time adapting to style of play. Different mentality in Europe. Loved it when he played mad.

Angus Booth: Marco loves him. Has known him over the years from development camp, but he looked and played like a man from the start of the season. There were times he held onto the puck too long, but he figured it out right away. Very reliable. Can't say enough good things about him. He comes in every day to work. He's one of his biggest surprises.

Otto Salin: It's not easy coming in at the end of the season especially from another county, but he was solid. Very surprising. Skated really well. Needs to get stronger. Reminds him of Sean Walker. Needs to learn to defend consistently. But he moves and shoots like Walker.

Jared Wright: College kids are older and more experienced, so in many ways they come in better than junior players. Smart. Doesn't play a complex game, which is why he's easy to fit in. Brings a lot of speed. Looks forward to working with him more. You heard "Oooooo" the few times both Wright and Chromiak were out there together with their speed. Needs to learn to use his speed better instead of just dumping it in though.

Koehn Ziemmer: Liked him better than in training camp. He was hurt and couldn't finish his summer program. So he was slower than he hoped to start the season. When he came back in the AHL, he liked him much more. His board work was much better. He has the ability to score like no others have. The rest of the body needs to catch up.

Carter George: They were so excited and happy for a draft pick just like him at this early stage. Hope he continues to progress in strength and ability to be a top guy, because he has that mentality. Very relaxed and calm. Having a calm goalie helps the team a lot. Always had a good feeling with him. The big question was, "Can he do it again?" and he did.

Erik Portillo: He's promising. Hopes he can come back to the way he was before the injury. He was on his way figuring things out.

I liked Booth. We need an Angus on the NHL roster! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

I was always really impressed with Booth, he just does the thing effectively and quietly. You almost never notice him unless you're watching closely. That's a good thing.

And I don't think I can unsee the Walker - Salin comparison ever again

Yeah, I could never think of a comp for Salin but then Sturm just hits me in the face with a baseball bat with a "HELLO! MCFLY!" statement.

Forgot a couple more points in the interview:
- he has a lot of appreciation and respect for Blake and Murray for all they've done.
- Feeling more calm and relaxed going into interviews
- Hoven's question: "if I text you a week from now, are you going to be a head coach in another organization? Response: thinks he's a good coach heading in the right direction. If he doesn't get a job offer as an NHL head coach, he looks forward to continue working in Ontario.

Lol. Lot of that going around the organization recently... It's almost like these people in the front office aren't the incredible geniuses that they think they are.

It's annoying because they're all to various degrees incredible likable humans. I know mileage may vary on some with Luc and Blake, lol. But Sturm in particular has always been a guy I've admired...I just wish he could also get results.

I get that. I met Sturm years ago when he first came to the US, and he seemed like a great guy. Same with Luc, he always seemed likeable when he was a player and even when Lombardi was here and he was in a mostly non-hockey ops role.

It can be tricky to seperate the person from the business sometimes, and I think that's what I've finally been able to do recently with this team. I wish no ill will towards Blake, Sturm, Luc, Kopitar, Doughty, or others, but at the same time I can't really say they've been great recently, or have been good at their jobs.

The new third jersey, in honor of Luc I Silverback, King of Kings. Designed by His Royal Majesty.

Just change the entire jersey.

Maybe have a team called the "Kings" prominently feature a crown and have purple as one of the main colors, you know the two things 99.9% of the world associate with royalty.

But hey, the greatest time of Luc's life was playing for the Hull Olympiques.

What a life for Robitaille, he gets to play EHM with a real-life NHL franchise.

Yeah losing Gavy for nothing at this point would be a fireable offense

You don't just let Roy and Gavrikov walk in consecutive years with nothing to show for it and no other LHD in the organization but Anderson, Edmundson, and Moverare. That's a lottery left side after already totally depleting your right side
I have got this info from NJ Devils board:

“One cautionary tale I point to is LA in 2006. They had just hired Dean Lombardi who inherited a team with a bunch of young forwards but not much on the blue line. Lombardi let the scouts take Jonathan Bernier and Trevor Lewis in the first round, but apparently, he stepped in when the scouts wanted to take Milan Lucic at #48. He wanted them to take a defenseman to address the organizational need and they took a D named Joe Ryan who didn't pan out.

The amusing thing is that Lombardi was later laser focused on a Lucic-esque prospect Kyle Clifford in 2009 which allegedly cost them a chance at trading up for Ryan O'Reilly. Then in 2015 Lombardi traded for Lucic which cost them a 1st that they would have used on Matt Barzal”.

I remember hearing this rumor before oon this forum, but has it ever been validated by anybody either from that scouting staff directly or from a media leak? I just wonder because Lucic was clearly the best player taken in the 2nd round, and only Marchand was better than him outside round 1 (and it took awhile for him to jump Lucic), so if anybody wanted to make up a messageboard rumor, Lucic would be a guy they'd use.

Mike Futa shared on many occasions how they were going to take Barzal in 2015, and the whole Turcotte leak to Rosen (probably from a scout) makes me think somebody would have come out and said it, as Ryan in round 2 wasn't exactly a feather in the cap for Al and his staff.

I remember hearing that, but I don't remember when, from who, or any additional context.

Just that Lombardi was set on building from the net out and wanted a defenseman.

I am always hesitant because of stuff like Faber, or even going way back to Mike Cammalleri using the Van Ryn loophole. Neither had any basis in fact but were spoken like gospel on Kings forums.

The Faber one I think really did start on this forum, and not even as a rumor he wasn't signing in LA. Just the article about his sister being posted and people discussing it, and it grew to speculation in other places and was even talked about as fact by a credentialed reporter who covers the team for a printed publication.
