Speculation: Another year of this Bluc **** (The 2024 season thread)

Depends on the GM and if they think 1 or 2 moves can take them to the next step. The evidence strongly suggest they won’t.

Kopitar, Doughty, Danault and Edmundson (who I think exceeded expectations) area year older. Doughty struggled after injury and he’s really going to struggle to get range back in that ankle because that work 100% has to be done as early as possible. Getting back for the international stuff, whilst understandable, wasn’t the best idea.

The fact Kempe is arguably our best player actually highlights the issue and as I say, I’ve always been a fan. Despite Luc’s delusion, he’s not a superstar (or whatever his exact words were).. Nobody is close to being an Elite D on the roster and Byfield only surpasses Kopitar at this point because Kopi has dropped off to 2C level (that’s impressive at his age). QB has lots of growth ahead still but between the two next year it’s probably not a net gain.

So realistically where is the improvement coming from? I’m just advocating a step back and retool. They can move Kempe and still make the playoffs if they get a young ger guy with upside back. The right deal is how you make a jump, you have to gamble with a big swing that makes sense in the longer term also.
Vegas & Edmonton are competitive.

Calgary & Vancouver had bad years & aren't likely to over achieve next year due to roster composition & other issues like injuries.

Ducks & Sharks maybe bubble teams unless they get on a serious hot streak. Probably a year or two out.

Rest of the division is meh.

Not a lot of competition to get into the playoffs next season.

He might in the future but at present he can do literally none of those things except for hit (as long as the hit doesn’t affect the play at all)

Man, part of me wants to see Florida - Edmonton again just for the meltdown when Florida goes full dirty DGAF mode vs. them

Leafs fans are handling it better than I thought they would but where we sometimes want to defend our players because some of the fans are nutty, especially on other platforms, Florida is like "no these guys are assholes we know and love it." I miss having a team like that.

It means you’re a guy who really doesn’t like people stealing his waves

Our draft lottery % increase?

Won't that be awesome?!

Yeah it was so horrible to suck between 2003 and 2009, we didn't get any impact players from those drafts who helped us win multiple championships or anything, right?

It would have been much more fun to lose in the 1st round every year from 2003-2009.

you know it's funny

without seeing the quoted post, of course

my thought is losing in the first round isn't awful--provided it's a team on the way up, you weren't supposed to be there, think 2022. That was fine!

But when you throw open your window early and betray all the things that got you there...well, we're already seeing the results.

we just had those years! wasn't it like 2018-2021?? So, now you wanna go back again and do 2025-2031?!

So, at best it would take us 17 years to win another playoff round????????????????

HERBY FOR GM!!

A rebuild should never end until you have multiple locked in star players. The Kings rebuild ended in 2009 when it was apparent they had 2 for sure, and one that was likely to get there (and did)

2005
One rebuild produced Kopitar, Doughty, Quick, Brown, Simmonds*, Schenn*, Johnson*, Voynov, Lewis, Moller

Another one produced Byfield, Clarke, Vilardi*, Anderson, JAD*, Turcotte, Kaliyev* Spence, Helenius, Thomas, Kupari

But ya, looks totally the same, how could Blake have known in 2021 he wasn't going to have enough in the system?

HOW COULD HE HAVE KNOWN?

I would dispute that there weren’t supposed to be there in 2022. They had made a playoff push the year before with a younger roster before fading in the 2nd half. They declined to trade Iafallo, brought back Lemieux and Athanasiou, and acquired Danault, Arvidsson, and Edler. The only young kids that saw significant playoff minutes were Mikey and Durzi, and that was necessitated by Doughty’s injury.

The whole narrative that they were a rebuilding team that arrived ahead of schedule was always BS. They were a firmly veteran team mostly made up of 25 and older players and led by the core 4 old guys.

Herby is pretty good at spending other people's money.

What does this have to do with Rob Blake and Luc Robitaille ending the rebuild 2-3 drafts too early?

I'm I correct in assuming that you believe it's unreasonable for a team to keep accumulating assets un til they have all the pieces, and the second they are close to the black hole they should make moves to get into the blackhole?

If the Sharks signed Marner and Provorov, coupled with the development of their young players, they might be able to sniff a WC spot next season. Is that the route they should take?

BTW, I love when I advocate things that have been successful all over the league (like not ending a rebuild until you have 2 pieces, and not putting every teenager you can in the AHL) and the response from you is that I demand these bizarre things that have never worked anywhere before (like Rob Blake's strategy for building a contender)

Because MAYBE....JUST MAYBE....the people who sign the checks have a say in this as well?

You claim the 'rebuild' wasn't as extensive as it should have been, and you put all of that blame on Luc/Blake. Rebuilds cost money -- ownership will LOSE lots of money over it - you saying that ownership has no say in what direction the ship is steered?

We have been told numerous times that money is not an issue and that ownership is committed to winning a Stanley Cup.

Luc said as much in the press conference? Is he lying?

Why was the same ownership group that ok'ed a rebuild 15 years before, and saw it produce the greatest moments in franchise history be so opposed to doing one now?

Is the narrative now going to be that BLuc really wanted to do a traditional rebuild until 2024, but were forced to end it by AEG?

Dude, how many times and examples have to shoved in your face to show that a 'full rebuild' isn't the only way to win a Stanley Cup. Jesus Christ, do you ever get bored with this topic?

Would Thomas Chabot be a good target should we lose Gavrikov.

Would also like Noah Dobson but he may still be young enough for the Islanders rebuild.

Bringing up these types of guys as I can’t see LA rebuilding and I think we need more offense from top pairing.

Trade for one of these guys and sign Marner. Call it a day.
