Speculation: Another year of this Bluc **** (The 2024 season thread)

Did you also predict Blake was going to walk? Just trying to figure out your crystal-ball success rate….
In a way yes, when the rumor circulated earlier this year, I said it didn't matter if he was fired or walks this summer, because we end with Bergevin as the GM.

As obsessed as you are with checking people's receipts I'm surprised you didn't already know that.

BTW how is your prediction of Blake and Hiller keeping their jobs this summer working out? 😉

It wasn't Anderson, he was already a full time NHL at that point. Vilardi, Spence, Bjornfot, Moverare, and Kaliev are the 5 I'd always suspected because all 5 were soundly on the cusp of breaking into the NHL full time.
We don't know that McClellan was talking as though it was a singular event at a specific time. Different individuals could have shared the same sentiment about different times.

Okay.... so it's clear from this press conference this team is NOT re-tooling / rebuilding.

That's certainly a choice.

I guess we just have to hope Byfield and Clarke become superstars and the team can land a big free agent.

I think he’s talking about Lias. I think he and Vilardi were also the guys that Doughty called out in the media late in the 2020-21 season as young guys that weren’t pulling their weight and were too worried about just being in the lineup.

Also, sounds like Blake did keep his job....he decided to walk away. Big didifference.
"Mutually agreed to part ways" isn't keeping your job. It's being offered the choice of we can fire you, or you can walk away.

As far as finding my old post goes, it's on these boards (maybe in this thread) someplace. But I haven't the time or desire to go looking because I have better things to do than dunking on you... again.

or they'll be discarded for a rental because.. we're right there

I literally can’t listen to this French Forest f***ing Gump talk like a an incoherent drunk he contradicts backtracks and end arounds every 3rd sentence.

There is no plan.

This man is a complete f***ing moron!

Kings don’t win shit with him in the organization.

I’m done!

Go utah whatever the f*** the team is named!

Oh god please no.

The one bright side is that it seems like Luc & the rest of this organization really do understand that Clarke and Byfield are / need to be the future of this franchise. I would be EXTREMELY surprised and disappointed if they do end up trading either player.

TBH.... As much as it's fun to rag on Luc & co, maybe this team really isn't that far off after all. The Kings were clearly the better team in their series with the Oil, it was just a complete collapse and complete shit show of a coaching performance that lost us the series.

Oilers have lost to the cup champions the last 3 years... So you really can make an argument that the Kings are closer to contention than the 4 straight 1st round exists would suggest.

Idk, maybe I'm just coping because we now know we aren't getting a GM that will actually re-tool (Luc isn't going to hire someone as GM who doesn't see the current team the way he does). But maybe there is a world where the Kings can come back even stronger next year.

I fully expect Byfield to be a point per game player next year. I also fully expect Laferriere to take another step forward (and be a 50+ point winger). Clarke can also take another step forward and be more consistent. Just looking at the potential of those three players alone is something to get excited about.

Turcotte played 68 games this year. That's a huge win and something he can hopefully build off of. If he can find some more consistency and a little more offense he could be much better next season. Helenius is still only 22 and should be full time 4th line center all of next season. Moverare was also a bright spot and could excel if given a full time opportunity.

There's bright spots on this roster that could push this team forward next year. And with the cap going up maybe you can add to that. Greentree also might be a star in the pipeline. Again I fully admit that I might just be blowing smoke up my own BUTT here but maybe we aren't totally and completely screwed?

Beg to differ- The Kings were lucky to win Game 1. They were on their heels after the Oilers came back, and Danault converted an ugly shot against a goaltender that was eventually pulled. Turcotte really sucks- he has decent vision but is so easy to push off the puck. What a waste of a premium draft pick. Moverare is at best a #7 D-man on a contending team. The #1 center will be 38 and #1 d-man 36. Danault will be 33. No way to Gav or Kuz resign here given the direction of the organization and California income taxes. The Kings won more periods in this series, the Oiler won more games? Any analyst would call the Oilers the better team.

What makes you think Hiller will be any better at all next year if the Kings make the playoffs?

This team is getting further away from a Cup every year. Kopitar and Doughty get older bit are still being relied upon.

They still don't trust any of the young players to do anything and when one does something, they either get benched, or called out directly by the staff.

I really doubt that a 35 year old Kuemper somehow replicates this past season again.

Even if they do keep Kuzmenko, and Gavrikov, great, you now have roughly the same roster that failed miserably this past year.

Oh and let's not forget it was allegedly the players themselves playing defensive against Edmonton and not Hiller. So it's a team of scared cowards.

This team still doesn't have enough balls, and Byfield isn't the guy to bring that to the table.

All the talk of "this guy will do more, and this guy will do more" ignores the fact that this guy and that guy will do less.

Anything can happen, and I felt they had a very good chance of beating a banged up Edmonton squad this year. Problem is the lack of balls and 10+ years of folding when the going gets tough. To lose every elimination game since 2014--on top of when they could have beat Edmonton in G6 '22--says everything you need to know about these guys.

They can talk about how this was the best team they have had in years, but it is the team that put up that Game 5 performance. That was an example of a team that knows how to win in the playoffs and a team that still can't figure it out.
