So when Blake signed our pp coach, the same guy who had the Ducks pp under 10 pct, he knew this could happen here right? What's the definition of insanity again? 🤦

1-21 and getting worse...
That's the consequences of having no one around in the media to call them on their bullshit.

Kings fans are essentially being deceived right now and told everything is fine and great.

The PP hasn't changed at all, and is dead last. It takes all of about 5 minutes of research to look into the PP coach's track record to see why it might be. But no one is around that will question it.

The Kings are a complete culture of yes men celebrating mediocrity and we fans are being expected to buy into it.

There was a farmer had a dog and BINGO was his name-o!

This is where we really miss Helene. Out "media " is too tied in with the team and afraid to speak bad and point out the obvious flaws

When we had a top power play (22-23) we had Vilardi, Arvidsson & Kaliyev adding in 23 power play goals. It’s more about personnel, not coaching.

That PGP is gross. And the comments on this on the Kings' Facebook post on this are (literally) unanimously negative regarding the service itself.

I really wish the Kings would follow the Ducks' lead RE: the Victory Network setup (possible financial implications aside - which means that it almost certainly won't happen!)
Perhaps I shouldn't be discussing this but...

The Ducks didn't move to Victory+ out of altruism or dedication to their fans it was a clever "last resort" based on the shifting television and RSN markets and what they thought would be best for them based on guaranteed revenue etc.

The Kings receive payments from Fan Duel Sports Network and as long as those payments are sufficient I suspect they won't be experimenting with streaming.

Sorry.

EDIT: I mean "self produced" streaming like Victory+ obviously there are the options for FDSN

Its hard to even enjoy games lately with the state of the world rn, hockey is one of my last sanctuaries but its tough when the team looks like another 1st round exit and has a bleak future, how symbolic.

I started watching Winnipeg. I find their games much more enjoyable than our LA games and I get the bonus perk of watching Vilardi.

While I appreciate the background detail (and TBF, I did acknowledge the financial ramifications earlier), I'll just leave it at this: from a fan's viewing perspective, right now, I'd give the Ducks around a "B" and the Kings a "D-." Judging by the Facebook comments, I'm not alone; but if the finances > viewing experience, I guess we'll just have to take our medicine.

Would hate seeing Gavrikov get that kind of money. If you're making 8+ as a defensemen you better be putting pucks in the back of the net. Our leading goal scorer on D this year is Mikey Anderson... with 6. Doughty only has 1 in 10 so it's not like his pace is great.

If Chychrun is available in FA, I hope the Kings go hard after him.

The thing is its not about what we wanna see. Luc Bergevin and Brisson are allowed to max out the owners credit card every opportunity they get and Gavrikov is a good enough excuse to do it.

I've said this before, I've been pretty nomadic in my adult life, I've lived in a lot of sports markets (LA, Chicago, Detroit, NYC, Pittsburgh, Milwaukee). I have never seen another team with the type of media presence as the Kings. Just having everyone ushered to "safe-space" media where the narrative is tightly controlled is just not the way it's normally run.

Rob Blake has been GM of the Kings for nearly eight years, has he ever done any kind of significant interview with anyone other than the two podcasts that all of them end up on? Which (no offense) we know that nothing resembling a difficult question is going to be asked. I'm genuinely asking the question, because I really don't remember one ever being posted here.

I realize some of this has to do with the media dynamics in the LA market, but usually in situations like that (NY Islanders, White Sox) the team is going out of it's way to try and reach out to the casual or newer fans and spread their vision of the team to increase interest. I remember when I lived in SoCal that guys like Joe McDonnell and Hacksaw would interview people involved with the Kings, so it's not like there is absolutely zero interest, and it's an impossibility. You mean to tell me someone like Eric Stephens wouldn't love to be able to do a sitdown with Blake and be able to ask him some non-softball questions? So why hasn't something like that happened? (and again correct me if I'm wrong and it has)

Some of the ridiculous things said on these podcasts over the years without even an inch of pushback is beyond annoying.

"Byfield won't be a finished product until he's 25" - Then he's signed to a contract that ends when he's 26
"We always slow-cooked everyone, even when Dean was here" - Outright lie
"We are right there with the contenders" - Can't call an opinion an outright lie, but a team that can't get out of round 1 isn't "right there"
"Only the McDavid's of the world can jump right into the NHL without developing in the AHL" - outright lie

No.

ALL of it has to do with the media dynamics in the LA market. I get that it sucks but it's not malicious in origin and it's not by design.

There simply ISN'T and never has been enough actual interest in hockey in southern california to justify the kind of coverage that some of you want.

There just isn't.

Time to accept it.

I honestly believe that is the truth. In Canada we have nothing else in the winter. Most grew up playing hockey and watching Hockey Night in Canada.

Most could care less about Basketball. Soccer is a summer thing but competes against baseball. We don’t have the NFL.

A lot of people live and breathe the NHL and want to know everything that’s going on with their team. For everyone reporter you guys have in LA we’ve got 10 to 15 in the big cities like Toronto in Edmonton some ask fluff questions but a lot ask the hard stuff because the fans demand it.

You can tune into whatever podcast or newscast you want depending on what you want to hear about your team. And no matter what city you were in we always hear too much about Toronto. If there coach even farts, we get to hear how long and how smelly the fart was.

Hockey Monopolizes the sports channels and the sports channels like TSN or Sportsnet.

If the Kings were in Edmonton we would have a full rundown on everything and the GM and coaches would be held accountable.

We have Jesse, The Mayor, the Bannerman, and Hockey Royalty of the top of my head that give us insight. All a different style, all have pros and some have cons. Need to get Helene back in the scrums.

The upper management don’t seem to interested in giving much in the way of interviews lately. There stays probably show the majority of the fans don’t care.

They could also care less about what the 20 or so of us think in here. As long as money is rolling in Luc is safe. Which sucks

So in other words, as long as the Kings organization is making some money -- they won't give a crap about the Kings fans, etc. Right / Wrong -- that doesn't factor into things when money is to be made.

I know i'm putting extra words in your mouth and inferring -- but in essence that's what it is. Which i understand it's fine...this is a business to many franchise owners (unlike the fans). It's just crappy to think about as a lifelong fan-atic

Jesse,

I remember people involved with the Kings doing interviews with the guys I mentioned (Joe McDonnell & Hacksaw) and this was pre-cup Kings hockey, when the team was absolutely horrible.

Were those men just killing radio segments for no reason? Idk, maybe they were, but why can't that be done now?

And if it's not realistic in the LA Market, why not go on a national podcast or do an interview with someone like Eric Stephens of the Athletic to answer some of the valid concerns of the fanbase? Why is it always the same places? And you can't sit here and say that it's only this forum that shares the concerns, you can see from the comments on the teams socials that many fans are concerned with the direction the team is going, do these fans (who follow the team on socials and discuss them extensively here) just not matter?

We are eight seasons in, with zero playoff series wins and no better than 3rd place finishes in the division, I think it's reasonable to expect some tougher questions to be answered by the people running the Kings.

The Kings organization has had one GM that cared about winning and that's it. Hard to care when those in charge do not care.

Helene is done because the LA Times is done. I'll probably get in trouble for saying this if anybody bothers to read it but the LA Times hasn't TRULY covered the team since 2007 and hasn't even tried to fake it since the let Jack Harris go cover baseball.

All of the hated "PRAVDA" media is a direct response to local "legacy" media actively folding tents in 2007. You can go back and read the history of the thing in various places.

I've been fighting this fight in the halls of LA Kings fandom/employment for years... LA is not a hockey market.

I regret saying all of that.
