I think I heard Hiller has some kind of connection to Lou Lamoriello and some coaches/players where Burroughs spent time playing and he was recommended as a good hard working culture guy. I could be wrong but I think I remember something like that.
The team must like having him around. Seemed like JAD was well liked also judging by the reaction when he got traded.
He was waved last March and claimed by Nashville - just FYI.. I never understood why they wanted to hang on to JAD when they had Turcotte who had a fine camp... old news water under the bridge now, but always puzzled me... and we do tend to ignore the human aspects liike friendships within the league and doing solids for friends like it may explain Burroughs presence on the roster.

Hot Take: The King's can beat the Oilers in a 7 game series if they take it to them physically. Florida showed it could be done. Need to start the attrition now against them & stop giving them rest days when we play during the regular season.
Luke warm take at best. This has been true for 3 years now. We saw this in the 1st period of game 2 last year and got other brief glimpses at other points.

If you press Edmonton and force their d-men to make plays, they will make mistakes. If you sit back and let the forwards gain speed you'll have a bad time and always be trying to catch up.
That said, I don't expect the plan to change if they meet Edmonton again because there's been no sign of change coming for 3 years now.

I have red and/or heard a couple of things that says something along the lines of him being a bit of a glue guy. That that said it can only take you so far.

Which is fine, keep him as the #7-#8, but like Lewis he doesn't need to be a sure thing roster fixture night after night.

Hoven outlining what he thinks the current plan is with Doughty and TDL:

Tl;dr version:
- expects Doughty to miss Columbus game but plan is he will play in Detroit
- until they are sure Doughty is up to speed, they will send Helenius to AHL as he's waiver exempt. So they will temporarily roll with 9 D on roster
- the Four Nations is creating a mini-trade deadline. Will try to trade Englund. If no takers then expect him to go to waivers
- target a <= $3 million forward seems most applicable of what they would target
I think it is possible to pick up a >$3M AAV forward. Hoven's analysis didn't include the cap space emptied by departing players. In practice if the Kings traded/waived Burroughs and Englund and moved Helenius down to Ontario, they'd free up another $1.9M in cap space, getting them to $3.4M. That leaves 12 forwards, 7 defensemen, and 2 goalies. Add a forward and that's 22 roster spots.

In this scenario, the Kings could pick up a forward with up to $6M AAV salary depending on retention. A lot is still possible if the Kings are willing to get creative.

I agree. It's possible, and maybe it should be clarified $6 million AAV is the threshold due to the time in the season.

He tries to keep a balance of readability for more casual readers and depth for hardcore fans, as not everyone who reads it understands the cap like here on HF.

I think the general temperature and theme is not to expect a large contract player long term being traded for.

One of our podcast about a month ago mentioned how much Burroughs was loved and a string presence in the locker room. Also talked about the western players and Saskatchewan players (Kuemper/Jeannot) bringing a different element to the room.

I thought it was an interesting thought. Makes me wonder if the dressing room was a bit fractured last year. With Doughty speaking out last year I know it wasn’t as solid as the management was selling.

Maybe Jesse can add some insight into this? For the life of me I can not remember where I heard this.

It’s the dad’s trip right now. Maybe something will happen after the trip. Blake seems to be very pro player and can’t see him doing anything to disrupt the team with the dads on the trip.

I would like if they took a shot with with Jack Quinn in Buffalo, if he’s available.

RHS has a great shot, they expected him to break out but he hasn’t. Had a good rookie season. RFA after this season

As far as I know the locker room was perfectly fine last year.

However... the amount of time everybody spent talking about how great the room was when the team was struggling was a huge red flag to me.

Like maybe the room SHOULDN'T constantly be good vibes and all love when the team is firing their coach?

I dunno....
