@Herby isn't claiming that @Raccoon Jesus and others have any insider information (although I've met plenty of players and personnel over the years), but he's no worse than Hoven at watching hockey games and making observations about the team. If I put out a podcast tomorrow, would you suddenly think my opinions more valid?

@Herby, @Raccoon Jesus you guys wanna start a podcast?
No. The credibility I put in people's opinions isn't based on having a podcast. I made clear that the active connections to resources in and outside the Kings give them a better pulse of what's happening with the team's outlook and plan.

Not that their opinion on players mean more. But their opinion of how the org sees the player means more.

I wouldn’t have a problem with the laf benching in a vacuuM but

Jesus titty f***ing Christ have we not spent the last few seasons complaining about actually reckless passes and dumb offensive zone penalties? Now we are gonna punish Laf for it while everyone over 25 has immunity?

I’m a hilller fan but he’s been trash this road trip. Willie D esque.

On one hand you have to limit special teams vs the Oilers but on the other hand McDavid ran Mikey, caught Gavrikov up high and then took a run at Laferriere. At some point you have to give it back.
Youre right about other players deserving to be benched that have immunity. Turcotte got benched the other day for scoring a goal. Moore got undressed in a pathetic fashion on the Oilers goal tonight and came out the next period with a promotion to the 2nd.
Hiller is great when hes creative and keeping the guys on their toes but hes falling into a routine of being a defensive coach that would rather lean on safe guys that cant make plays instead of going all in with the guys that are hungry. His in game management has been getting worse.

Feels like another favor to a Blake buddy.

Dude f***ing sucks and has always f***ing sucked, that was a dumb hire from day 1 that continues to cornhole the team nightly.

Never have I seen a team have such a dire weakness for so damn long and then it suddenly gets worse. It's actively ended your season 3 years in a row and this is your solution? It's insane how much momentum the Kings generate 5v5 only to give it away on the PP. Bonkers.

At least it will be fireable when they lose for the fourth year in the row to the oilers due to a 50% PP for them and 10% for us right? right?

I love podcasts too, and I definitely listen to them way more than the mainstream media, but I do think people tend to overstate the importance of the opinion of a podcast host (as we see here with Axl). To me the opinions of John Hoven, Dennis Bernstein and Jesse Cohen carry no more validity and their arguments no more cogent than many members here that I have enjoyed talking hockey with for two decades.

Why should what Jesse Cohen or John Hoven says carry more weight than what RJ or BigKing says? Maybe Axl can answer.

This is the whole "Fantasy Football Expert" thing, just because somebody like Matthew Berry was first to the game and able to monetize it and grow his own brand and following doesn't mean his opinions are any more important or likely to be correct than your 11 college buddies in your FF whatsapp chat.

As far as Fiala and PLD, bad moves that were made because of a bad bigger decision. Had Fiala been a consistent point-per-game guy and PLD been a 70 point center the Kings may have been able to make it to a conference final spot one of these years. The Kings weren't winning a SC with what they had at C, and since Blake failed to draft and develop any of the guys he used massive draft capital on into even a 2C, and his refusal to gamble on Eichel made it so he had to go outside the organization for that C and for more scoring.

Most teams aren't trading scorers that compete, play defense and are good in the room, that is why the ones that do hit the market either have red flags to their game/attitude (Fiala/PLD) or just don't want to be with their current team (Eichel, Tkachuk).

Just addressing the bold, the only reason possibly why, is they have more insight to what players/coaches are saying, thinkining, that maybe they can't comment on directly etc,

Again a one goal loss to Calgary and a one goal loss to the West champs and people are going unhinged on Hiller.

His record is very good mostly due to unbelievable home record.

He is going nowhere and if he did he would be hired elsewhere.

I'd say bring on the clowns but they are here every day and are among the most illogically vocal.

How long do you think Gavrikov can be a solid player for? 4-5 more years?

Give him 6x6.25-6.5? Or are contracts going to go the deferred payment route from here on?

Being a high demand UFA in a brand new market means 6.5 would be a discount

Based on comps alone he's at least a 7x7 in this new world

Based on comps, and being able to bend Blake over a barrel due to need, without a discount I'd have him in high 7s.

Maybe they give him that 8th year to lower the cap/defer salary whatever but it's gonna take 50 million to lock down Gavrikov.

If it's going to cost any more than $7m to keep Gavrikov the Kings should 100% just let him walk and move on...

Good player but absolutely not worth over $7m (especially with term). Let him walk and sign someone like Marcus Pettersson to a 5x5 instead. OR trade for Bowen Byram's rights or something.

Hes been great and is probably worth it to some teams but I cant see Blake paying that much. They just signed Edmundson to 2nd pair-ish dollars and have other needs to address in the offseason.

Sign Gavrikov to 8.25 then trade Doughty to the East Coast!!!
This could definitely be the move especially if they're really dead set on keeping Gav.

Going to depend on how Doughty looks when he returns from injury but you could probably get a pretty damn nice return for Doughty if you're willing to retain some money to bring the cap hit down. At 25% retained Doughty's cap hit is only $8.25m - I imagine you'd have some teams very interested in Doughty at that price.

You'd probably get at least a 1st and a good prospect and you'd be saving a ton of cap space in the process. Could use that saved cap space to go after a big name forward? It would be tough to see Doughty go but it might end up being the best option.

Gavrikov will get a deal for $7m minimum. It was a smart gamble on his part to take the short term deal last time, looks like it’s about to pay off for him.

I don’t see Blake/Emerson/Bergevin walking away from him. They will pay him whatever he wants considering his fit and everything they’ve given up to acquire and keep him.

Don't let the M-NTC get in the way of your XBox transactions.

They have to. Gavrikov is as irreplaceable to this team as Voynov was. They don't have any other LHD that can play the role on the way so the cost to replace him would be just as much.

I mean unless they're going to commit to an actual rebuild then they can roll Anderson-Edmundson-Moverare-Englund and no one cares that Edmundson will be a corpse in short order. But if they're serious about competing, Gavrikov (or an equally expensive replacement with money and/or assets) is key.

And the money isn't really the problem imo, it'll be the term, he could be rough by the end of it but what does that matter to this team

Arent they the #1 defensive team in the league right now with Anderson-Edmundson-Moverare on the left? Its not so bad. Basically Doughty comes in for Gavrikov and everything else stays the same.
Hes a big part of the team and it would hurt to lose him. I think they do make him a competitive offer but he chooses to walk.

Gavrikov will easily get 7 million at least. Do the Kings want to pay that? Pretty likely. I’d move doughty if possible and get a winger for him.

There’s been no talks about extending Gavrikov, right?
