Thx. So that money goes into league coffers and is spent on what may I ask?
My understanding is that it gets split up into even portions and is distributed directly to the owners.

I think the Golden Knights didn't get a cut of the $650 Million the Kraken paid to join the league so that $650 Million got split into 30 portions of $21.6M and then paid directly to each ownership group.

As is my understanding.

He is just a very specific style of player whose value isn't measured statistically. If your team needs physicality on the blueline because it's missing from your top 4, then you either pay the premium or go without. The Kings paid an inflated price for a specialist in what has been a declining pool. This one just can't stay healthy.

Edmundson had a strong game yesterday, reminded me very much of the presence we haven't seen since Mitchell.
I don't think anyone here doesn't see the value of a defensive Dman who brings size and physicality.

But you have to actually be good at the defense part. And yes this can be quantified. Edmundson's ability in that department is in serious question based on his play in recent years.

The Kings now have three potential NHL goalies in the system and possibly a real gem in Carter George. Don't know why they would make this deal and they don't have the cap space.
Not advocating for the trade in any sense of the word, but the key word is potential with all of them.

Portillo just turned 24 and gave up a 5-spot in his second season as an AHL starter. Slukynsky is 19 with one NCAA game. George is 18 with a mixed bag of games so far in his second season as an OHL starter. None of them have played an NHL game yet.

We saw what happens when the organization hitches their wagons to one goalie (Petersen), even after he put up decent numbers his first year in the NHL.

I don't think the Kings should trade for Shesterkin or any other NHL goalie, but they should also not be shy to draft another goalie until someone actually becomes a starter.

For Shesterkin, you trade 1st, Ziemmer AND Greentree.....every day.
Eh, those are assets that you definitely don't want to mismanage, especially as our prospect cupboard runs dry. In a vacuum, you can argue that about anything. Fiala is an elite first-line 20-30+ goal 70-80+ point winger and many here would argue bloody murder over trading a 1st + an unproven Faber for him along with 7 years in his prime at a good cap hit number. This franchise has needed one for a long time and now it has two... In a vacuum, it seems fine, but are the Kings Stanley Cup contenders because of it? There's definitely an argument that in hindsight, the Kings don't need Fiala and would be better off or in the same position with Faber and a better future defense, maybe not, who knows.

Your point is my worry. Blake isn't going to be around for 8 years of Shesterkin at $11/12M a year, and just firing off the last remnants of our top picks now and in the future on Shesterkin really makes the Kings a contender? Maybe, but unlikely. Not to mention goalies are voodoo, one year's Vezina winner can be the next year's 10th best goalie just as one year's 15th best goalie can be the next Stanley Cup champion. Doesn't mean not having a good goalie isn't important, many linger around in the top 10 and can steal the show and lead to a cup eventually. But that is a rich, all-or-nothing play and that is one that I don't want to see Blake at the helm making, especially as he is drowning and looking for a life preserver.
