Speculation: Another year of this Bluc **** (The 2024-25 season thread)

How insane is that Kopitar has skated 120 miles this season? 96th percentile of all players in the league.

They've got to get that workload down.

A friend of mine (self proclaimed genius) proposed this.. in division probably rules it out.. but looks good to me

LAK get Petterson
For Fiala, Moore, 1st and Greentree

Pass. No way would I trade Greentree or give up Kings first rounder. The Kings need their picks and young prospects for a non Stanley Cup contender.

If the Kings keep winning, no f***ing way is Blake not going to double-down at trade deadline. Him keeping his job is going to be dependent on playoff success. He will be loading up, no doubt.

Pettersson is 26, elite C....

You would pass on trading 2 late 1sts for a sure thing? First of all Vancouver doesn't take that deal, they will get better offers, but if Vancouver came to LA with that offer, LA takes it and runs like the f***ing wind and does not look back. The only exception might be the inclusion of Fiala, go figure.

Broadly I agree. However this team is more than the sum of its parts currently, a proper team. A big trade involving a roster player or two being swapped out could affect team/chemistry and balance. So he has to be very careful in whatever he does. If he can’t find the right character(s), as part of upgrading the teams talent level, he’d be wise to do nothing.

I'd say no, too, for multiple reasons:
- it's not 2 firsts. It's 2 firsts plus Fiala and Moore. I wouldn't be opposed to just trsding Fiala for some equivalent. Preferably someone more disciplined. But the entire package for a player pacing on 66 points and whose GM admits he needs some maturing?
- obviously not a dealbreaker alone, but I like Moore and think he is underappreciated.
- if the Kings hadn't made multiple big trades on mid-20s players already, they would have had more currency where this would have been less of a sacrifice. But this trade would once again add big future pieces when the Kings have already traded some big future pieces. So, once more, the timing is bad.

Imagine if we were positing trading Faber and Vilardi for Pettersen, because we have Clarke and Spence and Byfield and Laferriere ready to take over. But instead, we keep conceding to pay a future tax to improve the team, because the team spent too much too early.

If we are looking at a player for one season, then there's not many you trade for at all, ever.

I think there would be some serious thought if that was the offer, and what I was saying is, if the hold up is Greentree and a 1st.....if you are ok with dealing Fiala and Moore, you aren't letting Greentree and a 1st turn that down.

Having said that there's components of what Statto said, and what you said, a true team, sum of its parts, and Moore, I don't know if I make that deal without looking at serious down the line forecasts, it solves the C issue for sure with Byfield/Petterson being down the middle, who do you replace Moore with? Lee/Thomas aren't ready yet, and there's no one to replace Fiala, so are you creating more holes and is it trading for the sake of trading.

That's fair. It just ties in to yesterday's discussion of how all factors need to be taken in on whether it's a "good trade" and whether it's goid value under the circumstances. I wouldn't make the trade. But I see why others would be willing to if they want to "go for it."

Criticism of Fiala aside, I do think he has good value. I'm not sure if the difference between him and Pettersen is Moore and two firsts. I know some may argue that Fiala and his contract by itself is a net negative - I disagree with that and frankly don't want to be in the middle of that fight. I think he's just not a great fit for the team composition, style, and direction. He'd be gnarly on a team like Colorado.

Pettersson has had some fairly serious health issues & making 11AAV. There's a reason Van is looking at trading their 26? Year old 1C.

I was serious. He has reduced his dip shit penalties and has been a catalyst for momentum.
Look man, you’ve already sold the bait, you don’t have to sell it anymore. Perfect execution.

Had a laugh, it was enjoyable, but we all can come back to realizing that Fiala coupled with his salary are the single biggest thing standing in the way of forward progress for the Kings.

We don’t even need to factor in acquisition cost to come to that conclusion.

Playing with Mittelstadt, never MacKinnon.

Fiala is an outlier, a player with the en vogue definitions of a star with the edgework and excitement. But he cannot play with your teams best players, so you end up paying for the high-end sizzle but getting a mediocre steak.

Not many teams can - or should - afford to pay the premium for a midcard offense only player who gets caved in at even strength. Quality teams give those roles to less expensive options preferably a cost-controlled kid or a fading vet at less than half the cap hit.

I'd say Moore's inability to play in the neutral zone & Gavrikov's contract demands are larger obstacles than Fiala.

That sounds like the Dave Taylor trade motto. Moving those guys , you lose 60 goals and 125 points combined.

Wasn't Pettersson pretty much a no-show in last year's playoffs? Don't know if he was injured or not, though. Seems like he had ok production the last time he was in the post season.

Moore is scapegoated for a lot, but his contributions are consummate with his salary.

Salary demands are a looming cloud, but it ain’t gonna handicap the team going forward unless Blake goes full ra-tard.

It isn't Moore's scoring. He's struggling in the neutral zone. Watch for it. Not large & not particularly fast. King's current breakout, gets him hit from behind by large D.

Gavrikov walking, I'd say is the bigger problem. That's fine, just spend another first to fill the hole.
