They have been playing with far more structure, and Tanev and OEL have made a difference.

The issue has never been winning the expected goals for equation come playoff time. In fact, Marner and Matthews sometimes have it tilted to 70%.

The issue is it rarely turns into actual results.

If it was 1 year. Possibly 2 you could make an argument that it was bad luck. It's been 8 years. Winning your matchup on paper means nothing at this point.

Collectively if the Leafs keep playing a team game like they are right now it should translate into more success. IF they can figure out the PP.

Before the season started i thought generally there would be an adjustment period, we would get off to a slow start but by sometime in january wr would be settled in and ready to steam roll on into the po. Early games i was pleasantly surprised and with that TB game I wsd ready to accept I got it wrong and we had arrived. Now, it looks like how i thought it would. Frustrating sure but i have faith and am not too worried, just stay within striking distance.

82 games and then playoffs, a 2-1 ot loss against a western conference team is nothing to get down about.

If the team was truly playing poorly then I'd be worried. Other than the powerplay, which is still concerning, there's a lot to like about the way the team is playing. They've been controlling the puck and generating chances, just need the results to come. I'll kind of start to panic if we're still in the same boat 10 games from now.

We are playing well but not scoring on our chances. This will turn around. Our forecheck is the best it has been in the last 7 years. We have to stop making dumb mistakes.

Meh. Leafs always do this - they loose a bunch and generate a lot of hatred; then go on a 8 game win streak and generate a lot of good will - I'm not falling for this again.

Just please, for the love of God, keep the core 4 together. That's all I'm wanting. The rest is irrelevant.

Just figure out the best deployment.

Maybe this is it:

Knies - Matthews - Little m
? - Tavares - Nylander

Assuming Matthews can get his scoring touch back.

Let's pretend Matthews is leading scorer on the team today, that would mean he'd have another 5 goals. With another 5 goals do the Leafs win another 2 games?

Beat Montreal
Beat Boston
Beat Minnesota
?

If you score more than your opponent no reason to look for non-winning accolades.

Knies Matthews Marner
Robertson (for the laughs) Tavares Nylander

Sit the rest. That's all we need. If we go with just that for forwards, there's loads more money for Marner and Tavares.

Wild are a very good team .. better than I realized .. they deserved to win but we got a point from our tender .. and our PP made 4 skilled passes to move tender and then a great skilled shot (it works well every 5 games or so) .. but that type of PP can't be repeated as those passes won't succeed 95% of time and hockey is a game of repeat .. it is why when time and space on puck gets reduced after XMAS and in playoffs even further we fail all da time .. da core 4 take up too much CAP and they can't produce enough when it counts .. Willy is only one of core 4 who can fly and he knows it and so do all other core 3 members which is why he can create separation in playoffs as he has another gear .. if Willy had da heart of a lion he would be best player in league but he doesn't do it consistently
Maybe if the leafs change their colours to team sweden cause he plays a different game when he wears those.

for a team with 40 million dollars in 4 forwards, we sure do get goalied alot....

Montreal, Rangers, now Wild

in 13 games we have been "goalied" 3 times. What makes our offence different than any other team?

We should start consistently hating them. We will win the cup.

*spits at the lazy leafs*

Other teams get 'goalied' at times as well.

that's true, but does it not seem weird that we get goalied just as often as other teams

we aren't built like other teams, we may be playing a defensive system, but we still have 4 players who make 10+. We have more 10+ million dollar men than any other team, and yet we don't get any benefit from it.

If it's not scoring, then what seperates our guys from carolina's, nashville's, la's, florida's guys. we spent much more on forwards than any of those teams, but we get "goalied" just as often. If the player's don't make a difference in this aspect, than I see no need for keeping Marner and Tavares as they give us no advantage over other teams.

I don't keep track of how often teams get 'goalied' perhaps the Leafs are 'goalied' far less.
I wouldn't classify last nights game as being 'goalied'.

20 players dress every night, seems silly to blame just those two particularly the leading scorer.

Revolutionize the game. I like it.
Or do like the beer leagues. Put the 3 best players on D so they are out there always (matthews, marners, nylander) and roll 9 other forwards.

Time for the Bruins pregame thread for some forward looking positivity ! We're totally winning tuesday and everyone knows it !

I highly doubt that other teams are goalied more than us, we are good for 10 games a season like that. If you don’t classify last game as being goalied than what we couldn’t break through a “strong” defence? Than the point still stands that this offence isn’t good, because it almost never beats a “good” defence.

Moreover, it’s been explained multiple times why I and many others use those two.

Marner could have 21 in 12 in 8 in 12 my statement wouldn’t have changed. Ditto Tavares.

They are upcoming UFAs, so their NMCs don’t matter, trading nylander even if he waived would be hard in terms of value, he is overpaid. Matthews I doubt we trade if we try to contend. We can’t build a playoff winning team with them.

it’s like your thought process and thinking skills vanish if marners name is brought up.

 Ok
If you’re just looking to push your Marner hate, knock yourself out.
