My Andy Greene story. I might have posted this before (if I have, sorry). We were fortunate to be able to go to Sweden back in 2018 for the Global Series. A couple hours after the game we were in the hotel lobby when Andy and Brian Boyle came downstairs. Boyle was extremely cordial (no surprise there) as was Andy. We asked if we could get a couple pictures and Boyle was more than happy to. Greene said he had to get back to his room and get his bags ready to be loaded onto the teams bus, but he'd come back right away. We figured that would be the last we saw of him but just the chance to say hello was cool. Ten minutes later, here comes Andy in very casual clothes - shirt, pants, hat on backwards and barefoot! :D He spoke with us for a good 15 minutes asking where we were from, thanking us for coming all the way from the U.S. to see the game and just general conversation. He then said let's get some pics which was the icing on the cake. :)

So there we have our Andy Greene moment. :) Gracious, personable and a true professional on and off the ice. Congratulations to the Captain! So happy to hear he will remain with the Devils in some capacity and we're looking forward to Saturday!

Still debating on whether to post a pic or not. Maybe after a couple drinks tonight. ;)

EDIT: Here goes .....

I'm pretty sure video still exists of him not only keeping the paparazzi in line but him also fighting his best to keep Clarkson from cheating on his wife on camera.

Hilarious stuff lol!

I wish we won the Cup back in 2012 for Greene. I'm glad Greene still managed to have a very respectable career for the Devils and was a captain here for a bit. He was a pretty solid player , hopefully the organization can give him a role if he wants to go that route. Glad he retired a Devil
Him and Zajac may of played on the Islanders a bit but to me they ate Devil's lifers. It feels weird knowing they are both retired now. Despite some of the pains of the last decade they were straight class on and off the ice. These are the guys you want in a lockerroom for players to learn under 100%.

I just realized something - I've been posting on Devils forums since 99 and Greene is the first guy who basically spent his career here over that entire length; I remember him signing here in 06 and his first games in 07. It's interesting to think about how some fans HATED him in the early years (and he wasn't very good, so they weren't wrong), how he got major minutes after Paul Martin got hurt and excelled, and played steady defense here for the better part of a decade, becoming captain in the process. Never flashy, always smart, glad he got to go to the Finals, bummer he never won it all, but a guy who would've fit right in on those Cup teams.

One of the best parts of watching the game is seeing young defensemen grow through their trials to become reliable 25 minute rocks. Whether it’s a Niedermayer or Greene, the idea that someone can keep getting better at the least forgiving level of the sport and have a lengthy career is pretty inspiring.

No doubt. I remember when Greene was getting healthy scratched by Brent Sutter in favor of Mike f***ing Mottau. And now after he's retired and we look back, it's amazing to see that progression you described.
