As much as we can criticise him as a player, yeah, you do have to feel bad for the person.

But man oh man, has this been a weird couple of days...

I'm hoping management communicated this to him when they recalled him at least, just so he's not expecting to be in the lineup and then end up getting sent down a day later.

Also wondering if maybe the original plan was to sign O'Reilly, despite Gillman's denial.

I can't fathom how they'd work that out capwise for next year. In fact, I'm not even sure they'd have the tagging room right now to do it.

Given what's coming about the O'Reilly waiver situation, I don't see how it would be.

I think Hansen is going to play center. He did it during the lockout, didn't he? Booth / Hansen / Higgins could be a decent makeshift 2nd line.

I've given up trying to understand the last few days.

We lost a center to injury so we send down a 4th line winger and called up a center. Then we lost the winger to waivers, so we claimed a different winger from waivers and sent the center back down.
Makes complete sense to me :help:

Apparently Gillis did not know of the Kesler injury till after they put Volpatti on waivers

Someone should be ripped into for this. I believe the GM should always know 100% what's going on with his team. Either the medical staff hid this from people, or Kesler hid the injury from the medical staff, or Gillis wasn't on top of things, but that's a pretty bad **** up.

Well, they X-ray'd the foot twice and came up negative. So I guess while Kesler was doing a CT scan, Gillis put Volpatti on waivers. I assume that no one told Gillis Kesler was doing that scan.

I thought he was great in his bottom 6 role last year on the wing. He's definitely not a top 6 player though as we saw earlier this year. I would have been happy to see Lapierre slot up to 3rd line center, Schroeder on 2, and Ebbett on 4th.

Not as bad as the Flames signing O'Reilly to a offer sheet without realizing he would need to clear waivers.

ROFLMAO!!!!

Heard Gillis talking about the Flames offer sheet just now. "We arent sure what Calgary's considerations were... but we are aware of the rules in the CBA... so we didn't make an offer sheet..."

I think we're being a bit harsh on Ebbett here. The guy is only earning 500k on his two-way contract..

We're just taking all our frustrations about our lack of action on poor Ebbett.

I blame AV for putting him on PKs and PPs

I don't think he was that bad on the PK was he? And he was only on the second unit PP, At a time when our PP sucked balls, not that its much better now.

Yes. he was that bad. the guy has the foot speed of Cody Hodgson and not very good at intercepting any passes. pretty much the D on his side can do whatever he wants

U guys give Andrew too hard of a time

Geeze this thread is like a roller coaster. Probably similar to how AE feels right about now.

Feel good or bad the guy makes half a million a year, that's a lot of bling. He's a professional, like hundreds of other hockey players, he has to take the criticism/hate.

I'm not happy with him as the #14 forward for the team. 16 at tops, and I'm serious. I've never thought before so much then right now that the team desperately needs a top 6 forward and more bottom 6 sandpaper depth. In the 2011 SC run guys like Torres, Lappy, and Higgins provided some really needed bottom 6 offence. I don't see our current bottom 6 being even close to that 2011 bottom 6 (yeah you could argue Higgins is/was a second liner). Ebbett might be a nice guy or had a bad week but this is professional hockey, he should not be with the Canucks at all right now. I would bring up Vanderhoof as a forward instead of Ebbett if the necessity arose.

Especially bad considering that the initial reasoning behind waiving Volpatti was to accommodate bringing Pinizzotto off of the IR (who was then immediately sent down for a conditioning stint).

Pinner was only really on the roster on paper and only for a day. Could have easily made room for this by doing a paper demotion of a non-waiver eligible player with an immediate recall, subsequent to Pinizzotto being demoted (haven't read the new CBA yet but I'm assuming a couple of the young guys wouldn't go through waivers under 2013 rules). Clear the space to move Pinizzotto off IR and down for conditioning without risking the waiver loss of a roster player.

So, even without the Kesler situation, Volpatti appears to have been needlessly exposed.

That all said, I'm pretty OK with swapping Sestito for Volpatti. Like most people, I liked Peppermint and like to have players with local connections but, strictly in terms of roster strength, this is most likely a net gain (albeit marginal).

The way I understood it, Pinizzotto was on IR so didn't count towards the 23 man limit. To be put on the conditioning assignment, he does count towards the 23 man roster. That would explain why Volpatti was exposed. Ebbett was going to take Kesler's spot on the 23 man roster, but they picked up Sestito so Ebbett got sent back down. If Pinizzotto wasn't taking a spot on the 23 man roster during the conditioning stint, I would assume that Ebbett would have stayed up until Pinizzotto got recalled from the conditioning assignment.
