Andreoff to Tampa for Budaj

Given the depth Tampa Bay has up front, I'm not sure if that will be the case for Andreoff. I figure he'd be used in a similar role of being a healthy scratch for the most part, should he make their team.

Jon Rosen stating that Andreoff would have been hard pressed to make the Kings out of camp this season leads me to believe that the team is going to be making some promotions from within and/or making upgrades up front, which is very much needed.

Yeah, not really sure Andreoff is going to crack a much better Tampa lineup when he couldn't beat out Thompson, Clifford and Mitchell. He will be a situational energy guy who provides some toughness, but seriously doubt he is consistently in the lineup for them. And that is ok, that is what fringe players do, guys like this usually bounce around from team to team, sometimes have a cup of coffee in the minors, sometimes catch on for a season or two. The Kings way of keeping 4th line plugs for years upon years is not the norm in the NHL, no team in the NHL should go into camp with anyone guaranteed a 4th line job. Hopefully this is a sign that things are changing in LA in that regard.

Sad to see AA go. He was a great team guy. Best year was 2015-16 but he got hurt. Still put up 8 goals in 60 games.

The problem is when the Kings only have Clifford he doesn’t do his job as well. Seems like when guys like Nolan and Andreoff are around they push Cliffy to be more active physically.

Kings are looking a bit soft now losing Nolan and AA, wonder if they will upgrade. Thompson is physical, not as much as he was when younger, but he is 33 and soon to be UFA.

Wonder if MacDermid gets another shot as the #7 D or Kings plan on bringing in some more grit on the 4th line.

Thompson and Clifford are the grit, if the Kings were worried about a lack of grit they wouldn't have made this trade.

I know you won't like this but Brodz probably will be given the first chance to win AA's job.

Grit is overrated. Hitting doesn't matter if you aren't retrieving pucks or getting shots on net.

I don't think grit is overrated. If a player has skill, but won't get dirty in the playoffs, you don't have much.

Gaborik was a very gritty player for the Kings in the 2014 playoffs. Go back and look at his goals, most of them are net front battles he won with skill and grit. One has to wonder at this point if we will ever see something similar from Toffoli on a consistent basis.

I'm going to guess every team has 1 for sure, probably 2 guys that are all but guaranteed spots on a 4th line. At least to start the season. Your bar might be way too high.

He's a good guy to have in the system, especially when we have to consider that a prospect may one day be taking the mantle from Quick. Losing Andreoff is addition by subtraction. Not bad.

I disagree with the whole Nolan/Andreoff pushing Clifford to be more physical. Jordan Nolan only had 3 fighting majors this season; guy wasn't doing a whole lot.
