Look at the rest of the top end of Carolina’s forward group. Svechnikov is not expendable stylistically. This series reinforced it, even though he wasn’t productive.

Blake is the best piece that Carolina could offer for Dobson.

No way they make Svechnikov available. He was their sole provider of offense in the playoffs

I think Carolina should take that deal, and Islanders shouldn't offer it.

However, Hurricanes are in a position where they're going to have too many right handed D by next summer. Walker can play the left side, but then you also have Chatfield, Morrow and Heimosalmi. I think the idea was that they would be trading one of Morrow or Heimosalmi in order to bring in a right handed D to play with Slavin, or to bring in a 2nd line center. Adding Dobson for Svechnikov could be a good move, but then the plan would probably switch to going after a good winger (Ehlers maybe as you said), and finding a way to move out Morrow or Heimosalmi for somebody equally good and young, or a good pick, or for some way to improve the roster (2nd line center I guess).

Both injurie prone with similair potential.

Habs have plenty of LHD

So do the Canes.

Actually, our needs and depth seem to mirror each other. Have wings and LHD; need a 2C and a RHD, as well as some consistency in net.
