Value of: Andrei Svechnikov

Carolina brind amour system made Rantanen look like a 60-70 pts player and he his not in love with Svechnikov playing him 15-17 min with grinders keeping him to become a top line ppg player and you can clearly see top gun players running away from Carolina, I'm pretty sure Svechnikov regretting a lot to sign for so many years I'm pretty sure his gonna ask for a trade sooner than later. Free Svechnikov!

I know a Canes fan started this thread but Svech isn't getting traded unless it's as a main piece in a deal for a superstar (like the Rantanen trade but for someone else who will sign in Carolina, and probably a center rather than winger). Those guys don't really come available so Svech will probably be a Cane for a long time

Huge swing and a miss regarding Svech’s career so far in Carolina, genuinely impressed with how poor of a read you have regarding this particular player. I love the player but he has a lot of inconsistency to his game and engagement/lack of discipline issues coupled with injury problems that have hampered his development for a bit.

Care to comment about his lack of production while being stapled to Aho and Jarvis for more than half of this season? Care to comment on how his turnover numbers have drastically increased as well as his takeaway numbers decreasing and how that points to it being a him problem?

Injury(s) really derailed his career. He was looking by a superstar by all metrics.
I don't know about superstar but a legit top line power forward, yeah. He's really fallen off since the torn ACL sadly. He's still very young and I still think he could get to that level but it is disappointing that he hasn't by now.

What would be the ask from Carolina if Chicago came asking about Svech?

I think the Hawks could let him play a more offensive style of game and his size would do wonders up front for our kidlets.

The thing that’s striking to me is that he is 5th among all players in minor penalties since 20-21 (per @Blueline Bomber the other day).

1. Marchand
2. PLD
3. B. Tkachuk
4. Dahlin
5. Svechnikov

Marchand and Tkachuk can get away with it because they’re legit stars who play a physical, agitating game. Dahlin is understandable because he’s a defenseman who skates huge minutes on a bad team.

Svech and PLD are there for the wrong reasons. That’s a lot of sloppy stick fouls in the offensive zone, a lot of negated PPs and momentum-stunting brainless moments. It’s baffling because you’d think the discipline would kick in eventually, especially under RBA. But he just keeps doing the same rookie-like stuff, year after year. It’s strange.

There's honestly nothing from the Hawks that would interest me for Svech except for Bedard and he's obviously off limits.

Agreed. Unfortunately the Hawks are in a place where nearly all their forward talent is in the “aging secondary player getting first-line minutes in a low-stakes environment” category. That doesn’t make sense as a trade for Svech. They have some good talent at D, but that isn’t a priority for Carolina. And even if the Canes wanted to dump Svech for draft capital (doubtful unless part of a salary-clearing move for a different trade) I really doubt the Hawks would move a lottery pick for him.

Just not good trade partners, they have close to opposite asset dynamics.

What do you guys want out of Montréal? Hed fit so good with Nick and Demidov.
There’s not a respectful deal to be done here. Despite OP gauging value, Svech only goes in a deal with other pieces for one major upgrade piece. We already have lots of trade capital with our prospects and the return as got from Rantanen. If the Habs want to do a four quarters for a dollar trade Canes just aren’t a good fit.

I think if we're moving Svech, it's likely as the centerpiece of a package to a team that thinks they can unlock his potential, in exchange for a better, established player...possibly with issues of their own. (Wants out of their current team, slumping, attitude or locker room issues, team wants to shake up the room...)

The problem with Svech and the main reason he never blossomed into a true elite game changer is because of his playmaking. If you look at all of the top players 90% are amongst the best play makers in the NHL and the those who aren't are generational goal scorers (Ovi, Matthews). Even though everyone thinks being a great goalscorer is more important than being a great playmaker, it's playmaking that is more predictive of which players will blossom into the NHL's elite.

Ya. Playmaking tends to collorate with good hands, good hockey IQ. All pretty much guarantee hockey success.
