Confirmed with Link: Andlauer reaches deal for Ottawa Senators ownership

Why? What components would come from the USA that could not be obtained from a non-USA source including Canada?
If you list the millions of components involved to build an arena, I guess we could go over the list.
Also many things that get shipped from overseas land in the US first, and then shipped to Canada.

The shipping to the USA will be affected by the USA 125% tariffs; direct shipping to Canada or exemptions for trans-shipment might possibly apply.

I’m surprised no one has mentioned UPS buying Andlauer Healthcare Services for more than 2.2B. Andlauer owns about 53% and will stay on for a while at least.

He went to my golf club and wanted to buy his membership outright without the mandatory few years waiting period. They told him that he has to wait in line like everyone else to become a full pledged member lol.

It’s not a mandatory waiting period, it’s a wait list.

That's a nice pile of money. I wonder why he sold it now and what that means for the rest of his businesses (including the Sens).

I seen that in the news and was wondering if it was linked to downtown arena. Didn't see anything posted here about it.
I doubt it’s linked to the rink. It’s likely nothing more about UPS acquiring AHG to reduce competition in the logistics and shipping for healthcare. I imagine AHG will still be the brand but function as a subsidiary of UPS for a while. Can’t integrate overnight.

I think there is a connection to the rink. I think he's monetizing the big asset he had and is now sitting on a pile of cash. A big positive for me they must be confident in the numbers they're seeing for future league revenue growth. The arena numbers are scary. A billion plus. There's got to be some confidence in future revenue streams if he's preparing his assets to be ready to fund an arena

I’m not sure about any correlation to the rink.

Good week for Andelauer. Sells his company and his net worth increases by about $500 million. His Sens win a big home playoff game sending the fans home happy.

Just to clarify they said 1.6 billion USx or 2.2 billion CDN.

I assume the 53% you’re referring to is the Senators. Does that include the 12% he bought from another investor, a year or so after he bought the team.

53% is the amount of voting shares Andlauer controls in AHG.

I wasn't sure where to put this but since it was mostly about Andlauer I figured this was best...

So I happen to know a player on the team a bit. Not well, but we'd say hi when we pass each other and we used to have fun trash talking during summer hockey many years ago. But we have mutual friends as well that he's closer with and they were hanging out recently. Unfortunately, the mutual friends are Leafs and Habs fans...

But one of the mutual friends also works for Columbus for now and they all got to take their kids to a practice, see a couple games and go down and meet the team and chatted with the players in a pretty casual way and even hung out a bit away from the rink.

First, the players (call it the core players) LOVE playing for Ottawa. Specifically they adore Andlauer. As an owner and person. They think he is amazing and above and beyond. They love that he's at each game and they know he makes an effort to do so. They love that he'll come down after games with a lipper (my friends words not mine but chewing tobacco) and a beer to celebrate with the team or pat them on the shoulder after a tough loss. They know he's working hard on a new arena and are beyond impressed that he came in and immediately upgraded the facilities. They know its just a cost for him but he did it for the players and they appreciate it. They specifically mentioned the gym and health stuff added. To be clear.. I didn't get the sense that the players hated Melnyk, rather they noticed a clear night and day improvement with Andlauer. They LOVE playing here. It's not PR.

Players also appreciate Staios. The player said its a far more professional vibe compared to PD. But he's pretty quiet compared to Andlauer.

The team is also extremely close. We all know they were heartbroken to lose Norris, that's the vibe with this team. They truly love each other top to bottom. Apparently Hamonic really is an amazing dude too and the players love him.

Lastly... I will be vague but you will know what I mean. Not Sens related but I was told to expect some staff changes in Florida as soon as the season is over for them. I guess most think/know Ekblad's suspension isn't really "inadvertent" and what caused the suspension is also not isolated on the team if you catch my drift. So if you see changes in the strength and fitness staff for Florida this offseason you'll know why ;) Maybe every team tries to skirt the rules there but I was given the impression most think Florida is def doing something.

Anyway, nothing at all earth shattering or new. We've kinda heard this before but I thought it might be a piece of good news now that the season is over. Last thing I will leave with... my buddy is a die hard Leafs fan for life. Great guy otherwise lol. But he loved Brady so much after hanging with him that he is wearing a BT7 hat now (kinda looks like a T and a 7 in one logo?) and was torn on who to cheer for in the playoffs lol. So there's hope for him yet.
