Seravalli: Andersson and Flames “not on the same page” for contract extension

Cool. But he ain't nearly enough

Nearly enough? He played 13min per game and had 15 goals in his first full year. One of the fastest skaters in the league. You aren't getting a better prospect than him in a trade.

Since Florida has no prospects or picks, Luostarinen and Samoskevich?

I don't think Zito would want to move key guys from the team. Samo would be the main piece, maybe add some picks if necessary.

That's basically the sort of thing I was thinking about. Altho losing LDBB hurts enough that I'd want a "can we negotiate the extension in advance just to be sure" agreement before making the call.
Honestly I'd rather just keep LDBB. Our bottom 6 is going to look much different this season and I think he's a big part of that.

You might want to look at what players of Andersson's ilk tend to return in trades. RHS defensemen get a premium... Hampus Lindholm returned a 1st, 2x2nd and a decent prospect.

So yeah, He's not nearly enough

Understandable, it's just Florida has such little assets in the form of prospects and picks. That's why I personally want to trade Andersson to Carolina.

This reads like he wants to go to Vegas/Tampa/Florida like everybody else, and the Flames are saying if you don't waive for a team that actually wants to sign you, we'll make you risk playing out the season before you can get paid. We're not going to trade you for a soft return to Vegas/Tampa/Florida or whatever meme low tax contender you want to go to, who doesn't want to give us the best return.

The rumour was that Ottawa wanted him with an extension, but they were on his no trade list. I believe this was from Garrioch, so take it with a grain of salt.

Would there be any interest in both of Columbus' 1sts and basically any prospect other then Lindstrom or LDBB?

I think Andersson would have interest in Columbus as he is so close with Monahan and the Gaudreau family. Gudbranson too.

So yes. I think a deal can be done there.

How about the two firsts and Voronkov?

Flames fans want prospect and picks but Conroy wants to remain competitive and already has 2 x 1st this year and next.

Given their LD situation Matheson/Andersson makes a lot more sense Flames fans want to admit.

Good interview;

Two firsts and a prospect not named LDBB or Lindstrom.

Voronkov is not a prospect.

I am not sure of Calgarys needs but if they are in need of centers I was thinking potentially a deal around

1st (either CBJ or MIN), Cole Sillinger, and maybe a mid tier prospect like Svozil. Obviously only applies if Andersson comes with an extension.

Or, we can do a 1st+Severson+LDBB type deal if Severson would waive for Calgary. It gives them a RHD replacement signed long term, a first, and a top prospect. The Severson contract is bad though.

We don’t need a RHD signed long term. Especially not one signed until 36 at over 6 million per.

Lol no it doesn't. Matheson is older, worse, and left handed. If Calgary doesn't want to keep Andersson they sure as hell won't want Matheson

If Flames trade Andersson, its because they couldnt agree an extension. The solution is not to trade him for a guy who is older and has a higher cap hit. Flames are still in the building phase of the rebuild, not try to make the playoffs phase.

6 million per is pennies with this cap explosion. That is fine for a top 4 D.

I get the term issue though. No getting around that.
You’re right. It’s a fine dollar amount for a top 4 D. Perhaps I should’ve explained myself better.

The main issue is, if things go right with Parekh, Severson isn’t a top 4 d in Calgary within a couple years (unless he can play on the left side)—he’d likely end up behind Weegar and Parekh.

I think collectively we’d prefer a LHD, C or picks coming back for Rasmus

We have 3 NHL ready prospects that are left handed and getting blocked by Z/Mateychuck. We also have two NHL LHDs that’s are blocking each other for playing time that are rather young.

Let’s be real though y’all will want LDBB and our two firsts and thats a deal im willing to accept if it gets us an RHD.

If you restrict the analysis to the first 67 games, before the injury, Andersson's goals against aren't quite so atrocious.

But one thing is consistent with previous seasons and that is the Flames giving up substantially more chances, and usually more goals, when Andersson is on the ice. And this seems to be mostly from low zone entry denials. He isn't the defensive stalwart that Columbus needs.

Andersson's selling point is that he's had some strong offensive seasons. You might say that he wasn't at fault for the 5.7% shooting percentage when he was on the ice this year. I haven't looked into the details on that yet. But Columbus doesn't have an offensive role for him anyways. They're trying to get someone with Andersson's reputation: tough all-around responsible D, not his typical results: giving up the zone and a lot of chances. I don't like the fit with Columbus.

You guys realize he's played more than one year right? Do you really think he got old at 27?

People have off years, he just had a bunch of injuries, new partners, and shitty luck in general last year.

It's not really new that Andersson doesn't add much at either end.

No Matheson doesn't make sense. Conroy is always taking about players added being "age appropriate", Matheson is not that... not to mention trading one pending UFA for another just keeps us in the exact same situation.
