Seravalli: Andersson and Flames “not on the same page” for contract extension

He had probably the toughest assignments and lost the pp time by the end of the year. Calgary was also horrible at putting the puck in the net this year. I personally hate +\- cause it doesn’t tell the whole story. Think he was also on for something like 10-15 empty betters as well
I agree it does not Tell the whole story which is why I did not say he sucks or is damages goods. I merely said I felt like he lost a step last season as illustrated by the +/- stats and also mentioning his injury. My point was rather that I felt Lindholm was the best comp but given last season I believe he has lost a bit in trade value. Now due to supply demand mechanism CGY may still receive a Lindholm like package.

He probably “lost a step” cause he was playing the last 12-15 games with a broken leg. That’ll do it
Was he really? If that's the case, I hope he goes to EDM. I feel like any guy that plays with a broken leg should be in the playoffs.

I think it was -10 EN but let s even say -15 then he was -10 in a 96 point team with very good goaltending when Weegar was at +20. As mentioned above +/- not making the whole story though.
I went through every game sheet with an EN goal against and he was on the ice for literally every single one of the 13.

And what do you expect in terms of +/- for a defenseman that plays the hardest minutes on one of the lowest scoring teams in the NHL? It's really that simple. Weegar played easier minutes because the Flames trusted Bahl more than Hanley and Miromanov who were Weegar's regular partners. In addition the Flames were completely shit in OT and Andersson was on the ice for 8 of those goals against too (and 2GF).

So a breakdown...

While playing with a broken fibula -13 (one was an ENGA)
With the Flames goalie pulled -13
In overtime -6

That's literally 31 of the 38 while playing the hardest minutes on the team that was 3rd last in 5v5 goals for

This is why context is vital.

Yeah, He broke his fibula on March 25 against Seattle and played 12 games (including that one) to finish the season trying to help drag us into the playoffs.

And no, he's a better fit in Carolina or Dallas.

Meh, I think he's worth what he's probably asking (or at least close to), it's more Calgary isn't in a position to give him it
The Flames could pay him if they wanted. I think the issue is more that the Flames aren’t winning any time soon and Andersson is 28. They also have a bunch of young D they need spots for. It makes no sense for the Flames to sign him to a big-money long-term deal.

You guys realize he's played more than one year right? Do you really think he got old at 27?

People have off years, he just had a bunch of injuries, new partners, and shitty luck in general last year.

I'd imagine LDBB would be of definite interest to the Flames, as part of a bigger package. The Blue Jackets are just a logjam up the middle if Monahan and Jenner are healthy. LDBB showed a lot of promise in his NHL stint last year (8 points in 15 games at nearly 14 minutes and was awesome in the AHL so no fluke in his progression) and has real deal playmaking upside at the next level. Just think he's in a rough spot to really shine in Columbus.

With Kadri and Backlund aging, Zary playing wing and Frost not exactly taking the next step - I think he could compete for real minutes in Calgary as soon as this fall. A lot of the best Calgary prospects are more natural at wing - Stromgren, Honzek, Suniev, Gridin, Battaglia, Basha, etc.

LDBB and the #20 as a starting point? That's kind of the "Hanifin+" return - a first plus something a lot better than Miromanov and a 3rd. Columbus keeps their own first this year and can roll Werenski-Fabbro and Mateychuk-Andersson with Severson as depth or a trade piece.
That's basically the sort of thing I was thinking about. Altho losing LDBB hurts enough that I'd want a "can we negotiate the extension in advance just to be sure" agreement before making the call.

I wonder what one year of Anderson is worth. I guess it’s almost like he has a ful NMC because his value goes way up if he’ll agree to an extension first.

What will a one year rental cost?

He can be retained down to 2.25 million so I suspect he’d be quite the commodity if he’s traded as a rental

Dallas makes the most sense to me. Calgary can retain and take bad money back in Dumba or Lyubushkin. Hell even Seguin if they could somehow magically get him to waive

They probably wouldn’t have a hard time retaining him either and they strike me as a team that might make some sweeping changes if they can’t find a way to get it done next year
