Confirmed with Link: Andersen 1y Ext 2.75m

Reimer at 3G makes sense as a target.

I like Freddie and he's a great goalie. He gets injured a lot but this deal more than reflects that. They'll probably keep an ear to the ground for any other goalie they like that would force their hand on moving Kochetkov but be plenty happy sticking with the two and upgrading the #3. This is good stuff.

$4.75M or currently just only 5% of the cap for the Goalie position next year leaves $$$ available for another Goalie or to spin the risk wheel and spend it on position players.

Tulsky now has lots of options.

Interesting times.
Exactly. Not a bad position at all, when you consider available goalies. You have flexibilty if something breaks loose.

Probably the best option considering whats available this summer. On the plus side, its one year and not 2 or 3 yrs. I dont see PK going anywhere, but i also dont see PK playing half the games. These russian goalies like a heavy workload and need to play 60 plus games to be good. Cheap deal but Freddy gets the hiccups and spends 3 days in intensive care......

This was not my ideal outcome, but once both Washington goalies signed and Vejmelka signed, this was probably the best outcome left.

You can debate acquiring Demko or another goalie, but that’s still on the table and could use Kochetkov in such a deal. Not sure that’s a more reliable move than Andersen as others have noted.

You can’t have both Demko and Andersen or you will invariably be watching your #4 backup your #3 during stretches of the season.
It’s not like kooch isn’t injury prone either he’s never played over 50 games in a season. I’d rather have demko Freddie then Freddie Kooch

My guess, in all seriousness, is that the Canes will spend on a quality #3, then go wild at forward and (maybe) RD in free agency.
Yep, three headed monster is what I've been advocating for and expecting all year. Freddie is a ridiculous bargain for his quality of play, but he comes cheap because he misses a lot of games. So sign him cheap, get that value, and have a quality #3 who stays on the roster full time.

And then, sure, sign Marner for stupid money. Why not.

In looking at UFA market, there wasn’t a better option. Makes sense at normal pricing. But Freddie acknowledged the injury issues and outages and took way less in base pay. This is an AAV that is a steal and allows so many options to help cover any cold streaks or injury periods..

May be a risk, but I’m thinking Tulsky might feel like he already has his #3 goalie with the other recent signing of Amir Miftakov out of the KHL…. He’s already 25 not a young prospect like PK… so we don’t haaaave to sign even more….

I’m sure Allen will have someone willing to offer a more traditional backup role to him. Otherwise we have more than enough cap space to have him sign for a year as well….

We have our 1A/1B pair signed for less than every other teams’ #1 goalie…. Super Cap management advantage to us….

Id absolutely trust Helly to be a lot better behind our defense than what he's seen in Winnipeg this series.
Sure, he is also making 8.5 for the next 100 years, or is it 6. And a vezina goalie is never available. But the money gotta be taken from somewhere, so he wont get the same team.

I gotta say Helly hasnt proven anything yet, some of the goals he has let in makes me question him. And some of it has been the D.

How much of all this is Anderson being injury prone vs. fluke? Sort of like Justin Williams early in his career.

He just got drilled in the head, and missed a game. That's not unique to him. We saw Montreal and Washington both have goalies knocked out of the game in the same game.

Bloodclotting is a fluke, and likely irrelevant moving forward.

The knee is the only one that has popped up a couple times, assuming it's the same one. But it hasn't hurt his play yet, and the recovery time was pretty quick.

From Freddy's perspective, knowing he's only going to have to deal with 40 starts max has to be huge in terms of general wear and tear at his age.

And most importantly, he's as good as any goalie in the league when he's on his game at a bargain price.

This is just another one of those outside the box solutions you almost only see in Carolina. But it's afforded to them, because they can sleepwalk to #2 in the Metro.
