Value of: Anders Lee & JG Pageau

If they were to move both, it’s a futures return without retention. Trading them for a “hockey trade” is just pure stupidity on the Islanders part and not worth taking back a dud contract just to make the cap work. Best course of action is keeping both until the deadline and moving them then. Especially if they keep playing like they did last season.
Any clue on who your next GM is gonna be and what direction the team is going to go?

I hope it's a rebuild and we can pry Barzal home.

Bergevin or Darche. I highly doubt full rebuild but a retool and go from there. Ideally move out some of the older core players and go from there. Older means the Mayfield, Pelech, Pulock, Duclair and Engvall deals, not the higher end talent.

I could see JGP garnering interest from the many teams unable to improve their centre position through UFA, including potentially the Canucks

The issue is moving him now would mean they have to fill the spot with someone else that they’d most likely sign (for too much term most likely). Ideally the best move is to move him (and Lee) at the deadline for futures. The one they should move now is Cizikas for a futures return. Let Ritchie step into the 3C role (with Lee and someone else on his wing) and just suffer with Maclean on the 4th line with Gatcomb and someone else on his other wing.

I really don’t think Cizikas has much value at this point.

Waiting till the deadline makes sense unless somebody bowls the Isles over with an offer or unless there is a fear Lee and/or Pageau is about to fall off a cliff. You never know but given last season, they both seem like in good shape. Lee seems like an ideal handcuff to Richie for his initial full-time NHL usage.

Is Palms getting the rumored extension or did that die with Lou Lam leaving?

Palms was a Lou deal that was DOA once Lou was let go. He might be back but who knows at this point with any UFA. Once the new GM gets settled in, they’ll all probably pick back up and go from there.
I’m just thinking Lee since he could do his thing and be productive if he continues like he did this past season. Oates did wonders with him. Ultimately both him and JGP didn’t change much with their games and this year being a contract year could push them to play with more urgency to prove they deserve a solid deal going forward instead of a league minimum one year deal. I fully agree with keeping them until the deadline and Cizikas not having much value but he also has no trade protection.

Anyteam that suck on faceoffs should seriously look into Pageau. I believe 2nd behind Girioux for players with more than 500 faceoffs last year percentage wise.

Smart move for me would be a team like Chicago trading for Pageau then turning around and trading him to a contender for 50% off his deal

I think they are both moveable at the TDL for half decent returns .

by then the new gm might be attached to the notion that they have a chance to win with them if in wildcard mix

JGP, has a 1/2 the league MNTC. Have to see which clubs he wishes to put on it. Guessing the top 1/4 of the NHL would view $5 mill cap for a 3C as too high. He probably knows that if he gets moved in the summer, that he'd likely be moved again at the TDL. Lee, IMO is more likely to get moved to a decent to good team vs a bottom 10 team.

Honestly, Detroit needs a top 6 winger to play with Larkin and Raymond. If Lee were available for a 2nd or a pair of 3rds I’d make the move for him.

Caps could have interest in Pageau. If they don't think Hendrix LaPierre can be a good NHL center (yet?) they'll need a 3C. It's really the only "hole" on their 2025-26 roster. While retention is always nice, for flexibility, they wouldn't need it.

Not sure what the piece going back to the Isles would be.
Paguea for Lapierre straight up

22nd in points. Tell the dude to toss some apples once in a while.
Now that you've learned that Anders Lee is still in the league, you should also know that there are 32 teams in the NHL, so being 9th in goals and 22nd in points among LWs is pretty good, and that it's not unusual for a big winger who makes a living being kinda unmovable in the slot to have a few more goals than assists.

I was basically saying Chicago(or a team in a similar situation as Chicago) could trade for him then instantly turn around and trade him at 50% to a contending team. Pageau at 2.5M could have very good value for a team desperate for cap friendly players

Hawks probably want to reserve their retention spots for the tdl. Plus they probably are looking to upgrade this offseason.

Fair enough, I was using Chicago as an example, any other team who might be willing to spend 2.5M for "free" assets might be willing to do this.
