No idea what the Islanders' plan is going to be, and I'm sure we won't know until a GM is hired. That said, the idea of getting younger and cashing in on some veterans with value in an attempt to continue restocking the system seems like the obvious move - regardless of who they bring in.

Two guys who make sense to at least get some feelers on are Lee and Pageau.

Lee is coming off a pretty solid statistical season; only one year left at $7M(which I'm assuming the Isles would be open to eating some of). Big bodied winger and garbage goal machine. Solid net-front presence on the PP. 15-team no-trade. Will be 35 at the start of next season.

Pageau is a solid 3C for a contending team. Good faceoff and PK guy. Decent offensive output as well, as he's coming off a pretty solid offensive year himself - 1 point shy of matching his career high. One year left at $5M. 16-team no-trade. Will be 33 for most of next season.

What kind of returns would the Isles be looking at with either of these guys? Mostly looking for picks and prospects.

If they were to move both, it’s a futures return without retention. Trading them for a “hockey trade” is just pure stupidity on the Islanders part and not worth taking back a dud contract just to make the cap work. Best course of action is keeping both until the deadline and moving them then. Especially if they keep playing like they did last season.

Caps could have interest in Pageau. If they don't think Hendrix LaPierre can be a good NHL center (yet?) they'll need a 3C. It's really the only "hole" on their 2025-26 roster. While retention is always nice, for flexibility, they wouldn't need it.

Not sure what the piece going back to the Isles would be.

I could see them getting something for Pageau. He makes an average of 3.75M in real dollars over the next two years. He can win faceoffs and play on both special teams.

There will be a team who needs that kind of role player in the bottom 6 who strikeout on a free agent, or don't want to give up 3-5 years of term and a lot more guaranteed money for a premium 3C.

If the trade is Pageau for a pick with no cap coming back to the Islanders, I could see them getting a 3rd.

His contract expires in 2026. It’s not a 2 year deal.

I think Pageau could be a decent stop gap 2/3C for the Blues until Dvorsky is ready. Not my first choice but a decent back up plan that should come at a relatively cheap acquisition cost.

I wonder if the Devils have interest here. Makes a lot of sense in that 2/3C role.

The only issue I’d have is size. I feel like whoever they add at center they’re going to want some size to compliment Hughes and to take some of the heavy minutes off of Hischier.

Pageau doesn’t play small at all, so good chance the Devils might overlook it.

JGP is 1 of my dream gets for Anaheim this offseason...

id be cool offering a 2nd or a 3rd + B prospect(prob forward)

In terms of prospect what would Islanders be looking for?
Honestly, a prospect who’s not going to become the next ECHL 4th liner. The system is pretty bare but starting to get better. Personally I don’t want any of those “undersized wingers” who play small.

Isles not currently eating any contracts from what I can recall for 25/26 season. So, if retention is needed to increase the return they should consider it. Unless they prefer to take a bit less to try to move the entire cap charge.

Lee likely with retention or taking a contract back to a good club. Pageau, more than likely needs retention or a contract back, to go to a middle of the pack team or depending on how he plays his MNTC, he gets moved to a lower end club that needs a veteran 3C to handle PK and defensive zone draws for a year.

Really comes down to whether they prefer to move them in the off-season or hold them and move them at the TDL to contending clubs.

You're right, I misread capwages since it hasn't flipped over to 2026 yet.

I could see him getting a 2nd or 3rd, especially if 2nd rounders aren't highly valued this year. He has low real dollars, and despite his decline in play is a very useful role player.

It will be easier to create a market with only 1 year remaining.

I'd do 2nd + B prospect/3rd + Arvidsson (if he waives his NMC) for cap reasons for Pageau no retention.

Arvidsson is an expiring contract, same as Pageau. Most any contender is going to have to send money back or have retention. This way Islanders don't need to retain/waste a retention spot, and Arvidsson would probably fetch a 3rd at the deadline himself.

Anaheim has drafted pretty big the last couple drafts...

what about something like Masse + 3rd?
