So... I live in Plymouth (close to USA Hockey Arena) now, I took a salary cut but cost of living is cheaper here anyways.

Zero regrets, my new job is 100x better and more interesting, though it's basically the same thing I was doing 2 decades ago, lol. I went out west to ski, and I'm done with that now. Really sucks that my management decided to block my transfer, I will forever be pissed off at that asshole.

I wanted to live in Brighton, but decided the commute is just too far. Plymouth is nice though, everything is within convenient distance.

My previous city, Bellingham WA, has a huge homeless/addict issue going on with various homeless encampments, so glad to get away from that situation as well. Plus the minimum wage there makes eating out expensive.

I might have family who live out in Bellingham. Been a few years since I heard from them, but the name sounds right.

It's funny how convenience becomes more important. I mean, I have groceries only 15 minutes away, and it still feels too far at times.

My house was actually walking distance (1/2 mile) from a grocery store. The bigger problem is healthcare, Bellingham only has one hospital. Dermatologist appointment need to be booked 2 months in advance, dentists at least a month. My physician left town.

Closest BMW dealer is about 120 miles away, pretty much have to order car parts online. Same with appliance parts, ethnic food, etc. Bellingham is 90 miles from Seattle, so going there isn't convenient at all.

Novi is even more convenient, but the cops there are strict. I got a speeding ticket there, and my ex-roommate got a DUI. No chance I'm moving there.

Every time a kid gets sick, they tell us just to go to the local urgent care, because to get into any doc in the system is usually a 45 minute drive to some distant suburb.

Urgent care is the thing now, I only see a doctor for long term issues. It's pretty standard now, everywhere, even for workplace injuries. Probably not a bad thing, I've had decent experiences with the ones I've been to. You don't have to wait days for an appointment, and it keeps people from going to the emergency room for minor issues.

Maybe there will be some other event at the arena, I'm on the west side of downtown Plymouth, so it's a quick drive. If I drive like a complete asshole (which I do a lot), I can probably get there in 5 minutes.

You know what is worse? Not getting old.

I keep a photo on my desk of me with my arms around my two closest friends. One of them lived me while his house was being built, my kids babysat his kids, we all boated, BBQ'd, celebrated, shot pool, traveled, etc etc together. Ten children between us. When anyone asks me about the photo I tell them the same thing. I keep the photo on my desk to remind me how precious, and fragile, is the gift of life. You see they are both dead. Get old? Heck, one didn't make 50 and the other made it by 2 years. 6 children without a father, 2 wives without a husband, four parents who had to bury a child and today, two grandchildren that will never know their grandfather.

I accept the aging process with gratitude. Sure, I do all I can to take care of myself (a discussion that may be of interest here, diet, exercise, supplements, etc) but on this day, and every day, I give thanks to God for another day on this planet.

I guess some more information would have helped. We are not picky for food at all, eat just about everything. Usually anything that isn't a franchise and casual, nothing too upscale. We have no kids and are mid 30's so it doesn't need to be child friendly.
