I guess CBC is too busy holding Leaf nutsack to broadcast the game?
I believe afternoon games are considered regional games. CBC and Sportsnet only broadcast the national games like on HNIC or Hometown Hockey on Sundays. I think the only afternoon game considered as a national broadcast are the Hockey Day in Canada games.
It's the same on the French side. TVA Sports only has the national broadcast rights to the Habs (+ playoffs). And the national rights only broadcast the prime time games on Saturdays.
If the game falls outside of the national broadcast rights hours, it is considered a regional game. Which is why every year, on Super Bowl weekend, when the Habs play their usual back-to-back afternoon games on Saturday and Sunday, it is always on RDS and TSN and not on TVA Sports or CBC/Sportsnet.
