It makes complete and total sense to me. Ekblad has won his cups: it's the perfect time to go to a rebuilding team for the highest payday. Anaheim has a major prospect glut at LD (LaCombe, Zellweger, Mintyukov, Solberg) but only Luneau as a potential top-4 piece on the right long-term. They have a significant need for a veteran RD long-term, and an added bonus for Ekblad is that he would reunite with Coach Q.

I’ve been mocking Mrtka to Anaheim because of the obvious fit for a RD there, but Ekblad also makes a ton of sense. I wonder if they re-sign Trouba and just run with Ekblad and Trouba as their top-4 RD going forward.

The size those two bring definitely complements the smaller puck movers Anaheim already has.

He only played for him for 1-1/2 seasons before his Chicago problems caught up to him. It's possible there is a "fit", but I wouldn't be so sure that Ekblad is chomping at the bit to play for him again.

I think Florida seriously needs to figure out a way to do a sign a trade with ANA.....Florida has not cap, need to resign Bennett....A sign and trade would be a win win for both clubs.

Not sure the 3rd round pick Florida gets is a major win but I suppose better than nothing.

Would not like to give the player the term he probably wants but there would be a fit. Thoughts are to see how Trouba plays with a full year under Coach Q and maybe re-sign him with Gudas leaving afterwards.

I highly doubt Mrtka gets past Buffalo

Gudas; Trouba; Helleson; Luneau.

I don't see it.
Gudas is likely gone after this year. Luneau needs another year in the AHL to work on his D. Helleson is promising but may be the 7th D this year if Ekblad comes over. But Ian Moore also needs an opening...he's going to be an NHL D pretty soon as well.
