There's no doubt that nobody wants that contract. We virtually knew that before, and after he passed waivers, we can treat that as a fact. :)

The remaining question is whether [degree by which Stoner is deemped overpaid per year] * 1,9ish (given that part of this year's salary is already paid) is > $4.5M (Bickell) or somehow comparable to the $16.5M (or whichever of that is left after subtracting insurance payouts) on Bolland. I still have a hard time seeing what would lead anyone to answer that question with "yes", other than perceived opportunism. If the answer isn't "yes", the asset expected to go along with Stoner would need to be adjusted accordingly.

So Hawks paid to dump $3.5M of Bickell's extra cap (1 year only) with TT and got back a 2nd and 3rd.

I suspect a team will ask for Theo + Stoner for 2nd and 3rd. OR what I've proposed before Stoner + 1st for 3rd.

In all cap trade... the team was enticed by something "valuable" coming back. Sending 2nds over is pretty lukewarm offer... especially for a dime a dozen bottom-pairing D.

:devils Bernier(1 year left, 4,15 cap hit)+ 2017 3rd. His salary is 2,15 i think this season. So only costs half of his cap hit and NJ has tons of cap space so the 4,15 cap hit isnt a problem.

:ducks2 2017 5th

Ducks call Tokarski up from the minors to be their backup. NJ has the cap space and gets a possibly better backup than Kinkaid.

:leafs Stoner(2 years left, 3,25 cap hit) + 2017 2nd+ 2018 2nd

:ducks2 2017 6th

Ducks get cap relief and give up two 2nds and Toronto gets a little deeper on defense which they need.

Recent cap dumps to Carolina and Arizona came with top prospects.

$4.5M in real dollars, actually.

They might ask, but I don't think it's reasonable. I think Theodore's value easily exceeds TT's at the time of the trade. His progression had not been beyond skepticism. I don't see him having fetched a blue-chip defensive prospect like Theodore.

Still seems a bit on the high end. The difference between TT and a 2nd + 3rd (which the Hawks got back) is more of just a 2nd.

It's worth noting that TT was playing in the NHL, and I'd argue his value had been dropping because the numbers, and on-ice play weren't really standing up to the hype. He was a bit more established, which can work both for and against a player's value. In TT's case, I think the latter was true. His value was declining. I think that made him expendable, and Chicago was less inclined to make him a part of their future.

I'm talking about "overpaid" dollars in Bickell's case. $3M overpaid dollars in Stoner's case - since you mention $1.5M overpaid and he has two years.

$4.5M real Bickell dollars and $6.5M real Stoner dollars vs. $3.5M overpaid Bickell dollars and $3M overpaid Stoner dollars.

Theodore might be a little high, but what else do the Ducks have that is worth TT? Not Depres, not Montour, nor Manson. Something like Cogliano? I know Ducks fans like him... but value-wise it's about right.

Ah, got it. I haven't seen much of Bickell in Carolina, yet, so I didn't know if he looks like an NHL'er for them again.

I mean, we could just leave out the picks going back to us. I think Teuvo wouldn't have been worth more than Pettersson + 2nd + 3rd. So if Pettersson went along with Stoner for something negligible like a 6th, I think that would be even. There's some serious upside with Pettersson.

The Leafs already have four 2nd round picks over the next two drafts. I don't see how two more would be worth $6.5million to MLSE, considering that our prospect depth is already overflowing.

You do know picks can be traded for better picks or prospects or NHL players don't you? If you have a lot of picks why not trade some for something nice?

We already have more than enough picks to trade for better prospects and NHL players. Why do we need more from Anaheim? Nobody wants to take our quantity in exchange for their quality. If we were getting them for free, or in exchange for players that we don't want or need (like Michalek), then by all means, lets pick up some more picks. But when it comes with tying up more cap and roster space like Stoner, then it isn't nearly as attractive. We have four 2nds over the next two drafts, and have had four in the previous two drafts. MLSE isn't likely to be interested in paying $6.5million in real dollars as well as cap space for more of what we already have. Not to mention Stoner takes up a roster spot that we would rather use for one of our young guys like Corrado or Valiev.
