Look at the Bickell deal, that's what I want coming Buffalo's way

You're not clear on what type of player Stoner is. Bickell is nowhere near a comparable. Stoner is a good player. He is a really good 3rd pairing player and he elevates his game during the playoffs. He's just overpaid. Bickell was worthless. If Stoner was getting paid 3rd pairing money, we wouldn't consider moving him.

That being said, I don't think we would trade Montour anyway. As it is, we will lose one of Lidholm, Vatanen, Fowler or Manson. It makes more sense to trade one of them now so we can lose them on our terms. Keeping Montour gives us a player to fill that void later.

Manson is way too valuble, looking at his cap, to trade him.

It'll be one of #47, #45, #4 or perhaps Despres.

The one guy I'd move if I had the choice, would be Bieksa.

Would gladly throw in a 2nd to get rid of his contract.

Setting aside this proposal specifically, I just don't think Buffalo is in a good position to be taking on any multi-year cap dump. We're going to come close to the cap this year, we're going to need to fill a big hole on LHD out of somewhere, we've got guys like Girgensons, who, if all goes well, will be getting a raise as soon as next year, and we've got the big deals for Sam and Jack right after that.

We're just not a cap dump team anymore. I know it's hard to get out of that mindset because we schemed about the potential there constantly for about 3 years, but that window is closed. Money is going to be scarcer than available talent very soon.
