Proposal: Anaheim-Buffalo (No Fowler/Lindholm)

Anaheim seems to be trying their best to keep Rakell/Lindholm and possibly even Fowler. I'd assume internal budget is around $68M-$70M.

Stoner and Bieksa seem to be biggest stumbling blocks.
Bieksa less likely to be moved bc of NMC and he seems to be value..more highly than Stoner.

Buffalo needs depth/youth/talent on defense. Kulikov seems set to be paired with Ristolainen, McCabe with Bogosian in top-4 with Gorges/Franson/Nelson fighting for 5/6/7 slots. Tim Murray likes to keep up 8 defensemen.

So these teams help each other. This deal gives Buffalo veteran depth and some youth on defense.

Saves Anaheim cap space to re-sign Lindholm long term (the team's biggest priority) and have enough to qualify Rakell for the year. Also gives Ducks a decent draft pick and bottom-6 for war or prospect (Anaheim's choice).

To Buffalo:
D- C. Stoner
D- B. Montour

To Anaheim:
2017 2nd round pick (via Minnesota)
AND
Choice of LW- N. Deslauriers or RW- N. Baptists

Does this seem fair to Duck fans?
Looking at what it cost to move Datsyuk/Bickell/Bolland contracts, this seems on par to me at least. Montour is more valuable than Larsson or Petersson but less so than Theodore, and sacrificing him allows the Ducks to keep that defense core that has been so strong an allows Lindholm/Fowler/Vatanen/Manson to develop together and gives Getzlaf/Perry reasonable shot at contention for another season. Also, Deslauriers seems like the type of player Anaheim's coaching staff likes, big gritty, "hard to play against"

Our GM has been pretty outspoken about being against moving his top young assets for short term gain. I think that would also apply to dumping short term money.

Stoner + 2nd for a contract or 7th would be the farthest I'd see BM going, otherwise it's probably better to sell low on Despres in order to save money.

I just wonder who would take 5yrs at 3.7M for a guy with concussion issues. Similar to Buffalo with Ennis. I think with the cap as tight as it is it'll hard.to find someone willing to take that long term risk

Seems like a lot to lose Stoner's contract when he's not even that bad of player, at least when you compare him to someone like Bickell.

It's definitely a risk/reward move, but the reward is something a lot of teams could use. For a team like New Jersey who has the cap space and a big need on D, buying low on Despres could turn out be a real coup.

It's not like he was on the shelf to end the year, just struggled to regain pre injury form. If he shook out the remaining cobwebs over the off season, all of a sudden you've given up very little and received, a big, young, mobile, well rounded top 4 D.

Who the hell is Oneida?

And yes, I would probably do Stoner & Montour, but a second round pick and a scrub winger isn't enough of a return.

Stoner, Montour & 5th for 2nd & Larsson sounds good.

C'mon, you don't need Larsson anyway. ;)

Sorry, somehow Bieksa got autocorrected. Wouldn't be totally against Larsson, but then it'd only be Larsson. Not.adding a 2nd. He's.a.solid player, and the original is pretty consistent with the cost necessary to move that much salary/cap off of a team's books. Plus this allows Anaheim to keep Rakell, Fowler and sign Lindholm long term.

Lets wait until the Ducks learn Carlyle system, players who can't adapt may just shake loose cheap.

Stoner has 3 more years. Don't want that in 18/19.

This also assumes we can sign Risto fo 6.

Buffali isn't giving up actual assets for stoner of which the 2nd and Baptiste are.

Stoner's contract ends in 17/18 season actually.

Stoner is has two seasons remaining, and the assets in the OP's trade would be giving value back for Montour who is a top offensive D prospect.

Noeson likely doesn't carry much value at all. Coming off a down year in the minors and waiver eligible.

Plus Buffalo any really need depth wingers. If not Montour, would Larsson work?

Although I agree with the Chicago fan above. Stoner won't be traded without the ducks sending a sweetener.

But maybe that's why they just try to deal away Fowler.
