It doesn't work that way. They are traded with an agreement in principal from the new team, which is signed soon after.
agreed sign-and-trade seems not done in NHL.
checked back re Stone, was a trade-then-sign, as w Pageau

If the Knights could grab Varlamov for a 1st right now, they probably should. Then deal Lehner in the summer. Don’t think they will though.

Their mess in net might be worse than Edmonton and TO right now. At least we know Smith or Mrazek can get on a nice roll. As for Brossoit, we just don’t really know. We might find out though cause they’ve given away so much draft capital and prospects over the last 2-3 years, at some point they also have to say no.

The Knights, like the others, will probably add a backup who’s had some success before.

I don't think Lindholm would sign with NYI that has a worse record & Point% than Anaheim this season unless they gave him the Nurse contract.
NYI should be trying to sell.

NYI was throttled by a weird road trip and then covid and now they’re on a bit of a run. They’ll retool a bit for next year to fix their holes (LD being one of them), and if they’re in line to miss the playoffs again they’ll have some big decisions to make.

That said, both the other teams say no to this trade.

ol at the Islanders turning varlarmov a meh prospect and Chara into a number 1 defenseman extended. Can't imagine who the OP is a fan of.
