To Winnipeg:
Simon Despres LHD

:ducks
To Anaheim
Marko Dano RW
Ben Chiarot LHD

Jets land a young potential #4-5 guy, and Ducks get a potential RW scoring threat that is signed cheap. Chiarot is a good depth player to fill a LHD position if ANA doesn't already have someone ready to take Despres' spot.

I like it. This would be a good option instead of trading Fowler for a scoring winger. Both Dano and Chiarot are RFA's at the end of the season. What types of deals do you see them getting next year?

Ritchie-Getzlaf-Perry
Cogliano-Kesler-Silfverberg
Rakell-Vermette-Dano
Garbutt-Wagner-Boll

Lindholm-Manson
Fowler-Bieksa
Stoner/Chiarot/Theodore/Vatanen

Not sure where Chiarot would fit in since we have Theodore too, but we also shed Despres' $3.7M hit.

Honestly I think Dano could probably be enough if Bob comes to a point where he struggles to move Stoner and needs to shed salary.

Wouldn't the Jets have something like 30-32 million in cap hit committed to their defense if this happened? That's a lot of coin for defense, unless Trouba is getting far less than I am expecting.

Edit:

I feel Dano is more valuable, and his contract is much much smaller.. Adding Chiarot just makes this proposal worse in terms of value coming back. Depres would be nice on the bottom pairing, but I'd rather see what we have in Morrisey. Dano for Larsson on the other hand I think could be a point of discussion.

Debating whether Despres is worth Dano. No way I also give Chiarot. Not sure Despres is a lot better than Chia.

I actually don't mind a Despres/Dano swap... surprisingly a decent idea on hfboards haha... I would feel bad for Dano going to yet another team tho!

I'd do it without Chiarot but damn, if this happened that's an insane amount of trades for Dano since he was drafted.

I agree with this. I think the Jets like Chiarot quite a bit. I am not that high on Depres and would look elsewhere for LHD if Dano is on the block.

now the big question... do all teams hate Dano and that's why hes traded or do all teams love Dano and that's why hes traded for?haha

This would be doing the Ducks a huge solid to get out from under that contract.

Pittsburgh already gave them a mulligan on the Hagelin one.

Not sure why some Jets fans are so fascinated with trading for life time bottom pairing crap defence while giving up good young prospects.

Christ sake if you want to trade away good prospects at least target good defensive prospects not crap.

I really don't understand why Dano is so highly valued.

Can someone explain it to me?

Because he is a 21 year old forward with top six upside, who scored 21 points in 35 games as a rookie. Struggled in Chicago but saw an increase again in production since the trade to Winnipeg. And on top of that, he's cheap at $0,925 mil. And the Ducks need to shed salary without taking much back. In the situation the team is in, I'd trade Despres for Dano with no hesitation.

Ok, so he did good in his rookie year, limited games.

Didn't work in Chicago.

21 games and 8 points in Winnipeg.

I understand why the Ducks would take the risk/deal, I just don't get Winnipeg's "value" of him.

I'm genuinely curious about how much thought you put into this post. Despres is not crap. At worst he's a bottom pairing guy. At best he's a solid, top-4 dman who skates well and can play with a physical edge.

Unfortunately he never was able to fully recover from his concussion at the beginning of last season. With that said many players have taken long periods of time to recover from concussions. He may never recover, which is definitely a risk, or he may come back and play like he did when he was first acquired (big, quick, and tough top-4 dman).

Time will tell with Despres, but he's far from crap.
