There's been 4 double max trades over the past 2 deadlines (Lehner, Foligno, Savard and Janmark) and the value has topped out at a 4th.

It's possible that it shifts as the framework becomes more popular. Teams can go very close to a flat cap with the expectation that the opportunity to make this type of trade at the deadline is there. In theory, that should drive up demand for retention slots.

With limited retention slots and Seattle likely looking to move all their UFAs, I am not certain they will be willing to give up a retention slot for just a mid-round pick, regardless of value.

Those slots may be better used to increase the value of their own guys this deadline.

Yes, and a mid-round pick is usually a bust or a fringe 4th-liner.

I think it is a bit expensive for TBL. I believe Manson has not shown great prowess in the past 3 years to justify adding Foot in that trade. IMO the Savard trade i.e. 1st + 3rd is more realistic.
Foote doesn't exactly hold great value at this point either.

Still more than a 3rd
A 3rd feels about right, really.

I've been kind of down on him for a few years now, so maybe I'm biased, but to me he looks like he's gonna top out as a 3rd pairing D with better-than-average offensive skills. His skating will keep him from being more useful than that, which is sad, because the other tools are all there. He hasn't really secured a full time role with TB yet, and there has been no lack of opportunity.

Still think some teams would pay more but I trust you. Then it s a fair deal ;)

This was my first thought as well.

I really like Manson but that's alot to give up.

For UFAs they only have Giordana as a retention candidate. Other UFAs to be make low salary that retention just isn’t necessary.

Well, 25% retention of Manson's contract would be almost exactly the same as what 50% retention in Jarnkrok would be.

While I agree it is not very much, this deadline is going to have an unprecedented 14 and possibly 15 dedicated sellers.

To teams that are using LTIR relief, that quarter of a million in savings may actually make a Jarnkrok deal possible.

With only 3 retention slots, I feel like the third one should be saved for a larger return, like helping to facilitate a guy like Giroux or Hertl.

If the TDL comes, and they still have a free slot, then using it in a deal like this makes sense, but using it too early could cost the Kraken a bigger deal.

As a Duck fan I agree that's closer to a Lindholm rental than Manson. Manson I think would be more in the range of a 2nd + Foote level prospect.
id definitely like Manson over Lindholm. only worry is Sergachev moving to the right side full time if thats the case
