And yet he’s constantly involved in trade rumors.
It’s very possible he could be available. Who knows with Verbeek and it’s difficult to know if Zegras has a future with them or not considering how they’ve used him the past couple of years. Many of us fans think he’s been stymied and isn’t being used to his strengths. But none of the rumors that have been out there have ever said that he’s being shopped or that Verbeek is looking to move him. It all started after his buddy Drysdale was traded and a writer decided it made sense that Zegras was next with nothing more than his own speculation. The only thing we’ve ever heard that sounds like it could be credible is that Verbeek has listened to offers and that his ask would be high for Zegras. Makes sense that a GM would listen to offers if it could make his club better. But then saying the cost would be high, sounds as though he’s really not available unless you’re looking to make an offer he can’t refuse.

Nobody really knows but most of us Ducks fans here on HF would rather he not be traded and hope that he becomes a really good player like he was on track to becoming after his first two seasons.

As for the offer. I’d love for the Ducks to get Wallstedt but not at the expense of Zegras. The Ducks need high offensive players and he’s one of the few that has the potential to become that.

Never anything indicating that the Ducks ever had any interest in moving him. Just stupid Seravelli speculating about him possibly being available after his buddy was traded and a bunch of clickbait crap followed.
I thought your coach has been pretty critical of him too. Pair that with all the other speculation that his effort level isn’t there, the other young centers on the roster, etc. Just seems like a kid that could use a new start. Wild fans saw that pay off with Fiala in the past. Kids got a lot of potential but people gotta wonder if he’ll ever realize that within ANA’s environment. I think there’s some good value in the offers in this thread if your management was ready to pivot.

There truly is an astounding amount of just flat out in incorrect info on Zegras out there, people love to hate him for some reason and latch on to any negative narrative with zero factual basis. On the contrary, this was a recent quote from the coach:

"The [young] guy I'm most impressed with is Zegras. He continues to battle. He continues to focus on the linear part of the game. His pace up and down the ice is going to allow him to be a forechecker and not just a perimeter player. He's going to the net front. He's working defensively and he's playing with pace."

I always get a kick out of when a team’s fan base gets bent out of shape when an outside fan doesn’t know every tidbit of info on their team. The quote I did see was beginning of the year when Cronin ripped Zegras

Yeah that makes it sound like he’s prob not being shopped. Lol. I’m still going to be dreaming about this top 6 next year.

Kaprizov Yurov Zegras
Ohgren Rossi Boldy
Ya i think it was more of a listening, not so much a selling and twitter/hfboards take it and run. Then everyone starts in on rumors about him being a cancer, or doesnt play defense etc... i still find it crazy how much hate zegras generates.

The team isnt that good... so PV should be pretty much listening on everyone outside of Carlsson.

People throw around the word "untouchable" too often.... there are certainly scenarios i could see us trade Zegras

And yet hasn't been traded. If the return was non-blue chippers and a late 2nd in a bad draft then he would have been traded already.

The rumors about Zegras being available are rumors. The same as Gibson. Especially with the Ducks where time and time again it has been shown that insiders have zero sources in the Ducks. Look at the Drysdale trade.

Something about being physically attractive on the cover of video games wasn’t translating to being a good team player on the ice. I’m summarizing here, don’t remember the exact quote. Was sometime in the spring.

Can't find it, and that seems like it would have generated a lot of hubbub on the Ducks board. Link?

"Here's a guy that's attractive. The media likes him. The NHL likes him. Whatever those sports games they play, he's on the cover of that. He's a very sociable, likable kid, bounces around. He's like a butterfly, talks to everyone in the locker room. So, those qualities to me, when you draw that attention, you need to take that attention and convert it into some leadership. And if you frame that leadership around being great and trying to be excellent every shift, then you're in a win-win situation.

But if you sabotage that by whether you take foolish penalties or you turn pucks over multiple times and end up changing the momentum in the game, then you have to own up to that too. It's been a process with him but I do think-anybody that draws attention, there's an opportunity for those people to create an image and a standard for the team and if they don't do it, they're missing out on, again, going back to creating a non-negotiable standard and I've talked to Z about that and it's up to him to actually execute that."

Seems a far cry from ripping Zegras. Just seems to be a declaration of his expectations.

And keep in mind this is the genius coach that describes McTavish as a third liner, and talked about Gauthier needing fourth line habits.

For Wallstedt and Zegras its the worst possible fit. Zegras would be another undersized Center in Minnesota that has Rossi. For Wallstedt he would be blocked by Dostal even if Gibson gets traded to another team.

I think this was more of a challenge for zegras , not really hating on him.

His first 2 seasons he was def guilty of taking bad penalties, and prob not putting in enough effort in neutral zone and d zone…. But he’s cleaned that up…. He prob won’t ever be a barkov or kopitar…. But he does work hard in all 3 zones now, and does go to the net, and isn’t afraid to go into corners and fight for puck. Which are all positive changes in his game as far as I’m concerned. Obviously the raw production has been lower than duck fans would like…. But he’s also had back 2 back injury plagued seasons, playing in a low scoring offense, with an anemic powerplay in a system that doesn’t really push offense.

Trading him now would be a mistake… he’s becoming a more complete player and in a diff system/coach and as the team around him matures I think his offense will boost up. He’s also starting to show more leadership abilities around the team.
