Ducks fans still overrating their D holy. They act like they have 4 top pairing D back there when in reality their defense is worse than Toronto's.

I'm sure the Leafs would love to get some RD but they won't be paying some top pairing D price for over rated bums.

Maybe you guys should listen to Leaf fans about their players now.. We've been a lot more correct over the past 5 years than this site has been in all predictions.

Agreed. Our forwards are too good. Montour for future considerations.

I agree, but we should still be looking at all possible replacement scenarios.
Hainsey is gone this season via UFA
Zaitsev is an anchor we need to cut bait from.
Even if Liljegren makes a big step forward (and that's an if),
we still have one RHD to replace.

And Gardiner? Not sure he's still around next year either.

This is one of the few situations where I would be comfortable adding in a 2020 1st round pick. Its highly unlikely given the makeup of our team that we don't make the playoffs.

Zaitsev+Johnsson+2020 first for Montour.

You get a top6 fast young forward, a reasonable top4 defenseman, and a middle/late first round pick.

Seems fair to me.

Left side = Reilly, Dermott, Rosen
Right Side = Muzzin, ?????, Liljegren

Really only one needed by my eyes.
One of either Reilly, Muzzin, or Dermott is gonna have to play the right side. Pick which one does.

I was eluding to our cap crunch problems. We will need to lose some player salaries to stay under.

Gardiner and Zaitsev will be gone in the summer. Book it.

If we can make a deal for Zaitsev, I agree. My guess is Gardiner, Lindholm & Brown will depart. This year it was JVR, Bozak & Leivo. All teams go through this progression & cycle because of the cap.

Pass. That's not enough going to ANA to take a long term cap dump back

Given that Zaitsev is a servicable #4 defenseman on an expensive but not super overpaid deal and ANA rebuilding, I respectfully disagree.

Zaisev on 4.5m a year to be your #4/#5 on a rebuilding club isn't that bad. Hes not signed for 10 years.

Also, often players like Zaitsev thrive in a system and hold value. Anaheim can move him further in the deal for additional assets. If Zaitsev rounds into a reliable 2nd pairing defenseman, he could easily bring in a 2nd or something in the future.

You could make that argument if Zaitsev was performing at a #4 level.
He is not.
He is below replacement level and therefore has negative trade value.
Couple that with his horrendous contract and it's a cap dump scenario.

Zaitsev will be dealt for a late pick, or be added to a positive trade value for a later pick.
Those are the scenarios.
Please stop adding him to packages in hopes of getting a far better player. It's not going to happen.

None of that is a remotely accurate picture of Zaitzev's play or value. There is an entire thread where you literally can't give him away. He's making well over double what defenders of comparable quality are paid, and starting next year he has a modified NTC for another 5 years. He isn't going to be a 4 or 5 on the Ducks because they could literally bring someone up from the Gulls and get similar quality play for 1/4 the cost. Welinski is a similar quality player and makes 690k

Muzzin doesn’t play right side.

He’s strictly on the left.
Dermott can play both though

How about Kapanen and Zaitsev for Montour and Ritchie?

I'm reasonably sure it's been said in this thread about 400 times already, but to reiterate.... DO NOT WANT ZAITZEV. Like at all. Ever. Under any circumstances... Just no.

I think it would be a no just kapanen n Zaitsev for Montour
Leafs would still need to add Liljegren or 2020 first

Even as a leafs fan, I'm getting tired of seeing my fanbase shove Zaitsev down everyone's throats.

For gods sake, get the hint guys

Ducks fans still overrating their D holy. They act like they have 4 top pairing D back there when in reality their defense is worse than Toronto's. I woudn't take a single D off their backend over Rielly or even Muzzin. Fowler and Gardiner are pretty damn close players. Manson is a nice piece but we just got Muzzin who is the same style of player.

I am not a Ducks fan.

Their D core is very nice and more enviable than Toronto's. Lindholm, Manson, Fowler, Montour is a group they should keep together, maybe add a #5 who can fill in for Vatanen's missing offense but that's it.

The Ducks' problem this season was a combination of coaching and underperforming forwards.

It is gonna be funny seeing the back tracking on here when he does end up at a new hockey club, though.

Toronto's first rounders are gonna be garbage for the foreseeable future (sort of compliment). Instead of a 2020 or 2021 first rounder, I'd be inclined to go for a first way off in the future when who knows what Toronto's club looks like.

2046 first overall pick from Toronto to Oklahoma City after Anaheim's team gets relocated there.

Well we are running out of the [Nielsen, Valiev, Corrado, Rychel, Soshnokov, Polak, Loov] type players, so we need something (low value) to offer. LOL.

I know you're joking, but this is how the 70s Habs dynasty was built.
