What's the hurry? He played in the Norwegian league last year.

There is no hurry, he very well may still end up over in the SHL as planned. Now the Ducks have full control over that, he'll be in camp and we'll see how long they decide to keep him around.

Posted this is his prospects thread, but the Ducks of all teams have shown no hesitance in having prospects in the NHL for at least a trial.

"Luneau was in the NHL lineup last year in his age 19, D+2 season before even being AHL eligible, he's not as physically developed as Solberg. Same with Zegras, split his age 19, D+2 season between the NHL and AHL, scrawny little twerp. McTavish, a bit more physically developed but he was given a 9 game trial in his D+1, then was a full time NHLer at 19 the next year. Carlsson albeit with "load management" was a full time NHLer right away D+1, has legs like an actual duck. Cutter into the NHL lineup for the final game last year in his D+2 after signing. Zellweger saw significant NHL time as a first year pro D+3, but there was talk he almost earned himself a 9 game trial the year before. Mintyukov full time NHLer this year in his D+2 (age 20 season)."

Solberg looks further along physically at 18 than anyone above was or will be at 20. He's looking quite impressive already at development camp and management raves about him. We'll see what happens here. I know the plan was SHL and that may still be where he goes, but being drafted by Anaheim of any team, may have just altered the plan or at least opened the door to that possibility of accelerating the timetable.

No hurry. He’s already signed to play with Swedish champions FBK next season in the SHL and CHL. If he doesn’t make the Ducks he will just be loaned there. It’ll be the perfect stepping stone for the year.

I still cannot believe he fell into Toronto’s lap and then they traded out of selecting him.
