Orlov is a significantly better player than Fowler

I was gonna say…is this supposed to be an upgrade for Carolina? And I like Fowler fine. Too many folks defining Orlov’s tenure in Carolina by his rough first few months a year ago. He’s still an awesome second pairing vet. I think Fowler can be too on a good team but as has been mentioned - if you are Carolina, why mess with good chemistry and a cohesive unit?

I understand the point about having Fowler an extra year but the Canes are trying to win this year. They can worry about replacing Orlov in the off-season.

The Ducks should just trade Fowler with retention. He would be a pretty nice 2nd pair guy for a competitive team and I think would bring a nice return.

Trading him with retention for some young assets makes sense, as does swapping him for a veteran forward who fills a need up front (scoring, faceoffs). But this idea just adds an unnecessary middle step.
