Good deal. Vermette likely leaving a bit on the table for a chance to win.

Vermette was bad last year. Maybe he'll pick it up.

I think the 2-years was aimed at the expansion draft. Every team needs to expose 2 veteran forwards that are signed through the following season. If the Ducks decide to protect 7 forwards Vermette gives them an eligible forward to expose.

But can they fit both of them in for ~$6m?

I think someone else gets moved.

I am worried about losing one of them as well. Cap situation is getting worse with every signing. Only way I see us keeping Lindholm and Rakell is somehow moving Cam and Stoner (Bieska is not waiving that NTC).

Great signing for the Ducks. Pretty much gets Getzlaf off the PK entirely now unless Kesler or Vermette is in the box. Top 3 for sure in center depth now.

Vermette is not the same player he once was. I think losing a step or two really hurt his defensive game. He was also one of our weaker penalty killers and we were one of the worst teams on the pk last year. I wouldn't expect too much from him when Anaheim goes on the pk because there is a good chance Vermette is the one in the box.

Wasn't expecting this, but a very good deal for the Ducks. We're very deep down the middle now and extremely strong at the FO dot.

There are hundreds of younger Vermette's in the AHL and in the ECHL available for minimum 1-year contracts.

That's not even close to being true.

Agreed. I think a deal between DET-ANA for Fowler has already been agreed - what for exactly? I don't know. I also suspect that Lindholm and Rakell will be signing 2 year bridge deals.

Because hopefully all those players will be protected. Well, a deal may have to be made so they don't take Manson, but they can have Despres though.

Counter argument, if you don't want Despres, why would Las Vegas want him? At least half the existing teams are going to be looking for a deal, whether to protect a player or to get them to take on their trash for a hefty price. They can't take the expensive option for every team.

I think Manson is going to have a great year, and at his price tag is probably as good as gone if he isn't protected. Even if GMBM gets Bieksa to waive his NMC, he only has so many protection slots.

I agree about the first two parts, but the third one... I don't. Detroit is not the team to trade with, if you need to open up cap space. A team like Boston would make a ton of sense in my eyes. Same situation, more cap flexibility.

Rakell was always going to get bridged, but I feel like they could have gotten away with a long term deal with Lindholm. I guess the non-existent forward depth made that impossible anyway.
