If you've never had a dog and are hell bent on getting one, that's the route I would recommend. Training and housebreaking a puppy is a lot of work and requires a lot of time and patience. Plus, everyone wants a puppy, they get adopted quickly. Older dogs undeservedly stay in shelters/rescues a lot longer simply because they aren't a cute little puppy that people can brag about and show cute puppy pictures to their friends.

We are currently seeking volunteers to grow our foster home network. Fostering is a rewarding experience where you temporarily house animals in need in your own home until they are ready for adoption. Foster animals include pregnant dogs/cats, nursing dogs/cats and their litters, dogs/cats recovering from injuries or dogs/cats in need of socialization. We recommend having a separate area in your home to care for foster pets; a spare bedroom, bathroom or laundry room works great. The shelter provides all medical care and dry food. Foster homes provide wet food, litter for the kitties, bedding and daily care of the animals. Supplies you purchase to care for foster animals may be tax deductible.

I doubt you would be allowed to foster. Usually they are looking for people with lots of experience, a history at the vet that they can look at to make sure you stay current on your animals shots and checkups, proper homing conditions (fenced in yard, lots of time to spend with the animals, etc.)

Even adopting an animal from a rescue can be tough for the same reasons.

Makes u think why there are so many dogs in need of a foster family

Better than giving them to people who wont take care of them and/or surrender them back to foster care or shelter a year later when it isn't a shiny new toy. Or use them as bait for dog fighting.

If you are going to ask for donations from people to help your rescue, then you have to do your due diligence or what's the point of being a rescue?

Well fostering a dog and adopting a dog are two different things. The whole idea of fostering a dog is to surrender the dog back to the shelter once they find a suitable adopter. My sister and her husband fostered 2 dogs at 2 different times before they decided to get their first dog. No history of vets or anything just a house with a big fenced in yard and the time and resources needed to take care of a dog for awhile.

Fostering the dogs helped them figure out that they were ready for actually owning a dog and also what type of dog they preferred to get. Fostering a dog is kind of like test driving a car. Sure you have to prove you have a license but that doesn't mean you have to prove you're capable of affording the car.

Different rescues have different policies I guess. The ones we've been involved in, you foster the dog until the rescue finds an adopter, as long as you are able of course, it is volunteer. There is no central shelter to speak of. It's a network of volunteers.

The rescues my folks are involved in do home inspections. If they have any reservations about the type of owner you would be, they will not approve the adoption. They turned down an adoption recently because the potential owner had let their previous dogs rabies shot lapse for over a year.

My friends were turned down by 3 different rescues for not having a fenced in yard.

YMMV, just my knowledge.

They did come and do a house visit for my sister and saw they had a big fenced in yard I have no knowledge of what the OPs living situation is since all he did was say "discuss" like a chump. But I like that shelters and rescues are making it more difficult to to adopt dogs. Sure it's a hassle for some people but it's better than just giving out dogs to anyone that gets the idea that they're ready for that kind of commitment.

I voted no. The fact anyone is questioning his skills is a good indicator that he isn't ready.

Imagine you are in DC, on vacation, touring the all the local hotspots. You pull out your smart device, open the Uber app, and order an Uber to get to you next exciting destination. With a quickness, here comes a Honda SUV, rippin' around the corner. It stops in front of you, the windows roll down, and there's ix and in the passenger seat is his dog, riding shotty, wearing driving goggles and a scarf. They look at you in synchronicity, and then ix, like a white knight on his stallion, says "get in", and they whisk you away to your next destination.

Oh what an experience that would be.

Apparently not.

Besides, a scarf is an unsafe clothing accessory for a dog, especially while in a moving vehicle.

I should hope ix knows better than that.

If you get a cat you must declaw and spay or neuter it. I have had a few cats over the years and it wasn't until my current cat that I decided to de-claw her and honestly it was the best decision. Better for her, better for us. She is a much happier cat now

How about adopting a child :)

Make a difference in a kids life

Could even take in a rough teenage street kid much like Sandy Cohen did with Ryan Atwood in the television show The O.C.

Plus if he's a teenager he'll be ready for an hf account straight away

This is the most sensible answer

Pets are a big commitment especially a dog as it has to be let out to use the bathroom. That said there's no loyalty like that of a dog. If you think you're ready to adopt a pet then I say go for it.

How are you dealing with the Caps loss? Cause having a real dog literally ******** on your carpet is like the Caps figuratively doing it by losing that series.
