Toronto goaltending situation is a mess. Campbell is injured and they have to rely on unproven AHL goalies right now. They need a reliable #2 in case Campbell gets hurt again before the playoffs. Allen is signed for another year as well for cheap.

Montreal is clearly rebuilding. They are winning a bit too much right now for their own good. They don't expect to be competitive next year, and Price just started practicing with the team.

Montembeault/Hammond is good enough for the rest of the season, but they can send one down without a problem and absorb a bit of salary. Price/Mrazek is alright for next year, since they don't have to pay for any big new contract before 2023 beside maybe Romanov.

The trade:

Toronto gets: Allen (50% retained)

Montreal gets: Mrazek, Hirvonen, 2022 2nd, 2023 3rd

Toronto gets a reliable 2nd goalie for two runs and save 2.4 millions on the cap for this year and the next.

Montreal gets another prospect and picks for the rebuild.

Fair?

Toronto will have to give a first for Mrazek to be dealt. A second and a third isn’t worth that salary being taken in as much as Toronto wishes to think someone will

You want 4 million for 3 years against your cap? Go for it. But as you can see no one else here does that’s posted
I mean, if you were to give up a first for Mrazek, I think keeping the contract might be better. It's not as Mrazek's like Ilya Bryzgalov in the past.

I don't think Montreal (or anybody) wants the Mrazek contract... so you might need to first give up a pick to get a team to take it.

Toronto is bent over a barrel, they'll need to make it really worth it for a team to take on Mrazek. Another brilliant move by Dubas that one was.

Don't get fooled by stats, people that range a players by their stats is a bad way to look at it.
Allen is been left alone in front of the net for the first half of the season.
No Goalie would have good stats.
Yes, but I don't see Toronto defense shoring up that loss of defense that Allen experienced in Montreal. Toronto has Muzzin injured.

Allen has positive value. Mzarek has negative vale.

A Toronto 1st is the minimum for Montreal to consider this.
