It's only depth if they are NHL players.Kotkaniemi... Olofsson... Hillis... McShane....
We've got TREMENDOUS depth at center now prospect wise.
Good value where we snagged him. Somebody give him a foot transplant.
McShane being available at 97 is a great example of how deep this center class was. Everyone was focused at the top but this was a deep class for Day 2 guys. In Olofsson, Hillis, and McShane we got excellent players that all probably should have been off the board already.
My list only went up to 14 and then I had broader groupings, but had Olofsson as a late round 1, Hillis and McShane as late round 2, and Fonstad as a 3rd rounder.I never thought I was particularly high on Hillis, Fonstad, or McShane. Others in the draft thread were much higher on all three. End of the day, though, we got 45, 51 and 67 on my list at 66, 97, and 128. Fuggedaboudit.
I was never high on these guys because, while they're all skilled and smart, they don't have that Berggren ''buzzsaw'' aspect to them. That made me think that they'll likely underperform at the NHL level. However, having all three of them, I think there's a decent chance we get a very good player. McShane is very smart, Hillis has great vision and feistiness (statistically he's interesting as well, but he might be buoyed by linemates), and Fonstad is extremely skilled.
Id say Fonstad is more Hudon. McShane is a blend of Lekh and Hudon. Theres some grind in him.
Yeah, I mustve been pretty tired when I wrote that, or drunk ? Big week-end.Don't see it to be honest. Fonstad has a beautiful skating stride and edge work, makes a lot of quick moves at speed. Hudon had brutal skating, kind of like McShane. They both do these little nifty passes just before getting checked along the boards because they're so bad at skating. They rely a lot on use of empty space and quick hands at lower velocity.
I was about to say that. He looked like a beast. Of course it's a highlight video so it doesn't count.Of all the highlight vids of all the kids thats been posted up, obviously theyve all looked great i mean its a highlight package i get it
But McShane's was the most fun and impressive to me for some reason, he really stood out to me
Ylonen close second

Had more points than Dellandrea and Hayton
Was watching a U-18 game vs Sweden, liked what I saw from him but would have liked to see him get more involved physically. Showed some good things, of course it's just one game.

how bad does the skating look to you? It didn't look THAT bad to me in the highlights. Seems shifty enough. Do you think his skill can overcome it if he doesn't drastically improve it?
