The upcoming Soto buyout in 8-10 years is going to be epic. They're going to be paying that shit to his grandkids

Wow, per the ESPN article.

The deal includes an opt-out after five years and no deferred money, sources said. If Soto chooses not to opt out, his deal will go up $4 million per year -- from $51 million to $55 million -- for the remainder of the contract, meaning the total value could exceed $800 million.

The contract also includes a $75 million signing bonus, sources said.

So does that mean that Soto has an "opt out" but the Mets do not?

$125M paid in the first year alone with SB and salary. Crazy.

All those deals age poorly. And there are definitely reasons to believe Soto's will as well (though I imagine the bat stays fairly strong for a while, he already has deficiencies in most other parts of his game that might crater pretty hard at some point). But I don't blame the uber rich guy for spending the money on Soto. I think some of their run this past season was a bit premature, but adding a guy like Soto, and then presumably they stay aggressive after that, could keep them in that stratosphere.

Ah, the poor, downtrodden Yankees fans. Whatever shall they do?:nopity: (sorry, but you gotta know ain't nobody got sympathy for Yanks fans).
Oh believe me, I DO. Still fun chatting baseball /trash talking with you all though ;)

As a Mets fan, I am hoping this signing works out in a Mike Piazza sort of way, vs an every Mets signing besides Mike Piazza sort of way.
You got a generational talent. I’m legit jealous. At least he didn’t go to the Sox I guess smh

As a Guardians fan I am pretty stoked that in the last few years they have been able to keep 2 of the premiere players at their positions in the league while paying them less than what other teams offered them. Jose Ramirez left a lot of money on the table and now it seems Shane Bieber took less than what the Sox offered.

In a vacuum I agree, but count in how much money the league make from TV deals, merchandise, gate receipts, etc etc. Do you want all the money to go to the owners?
I want prices to go way, way down, and if that can't happen, I want owners and players to be taxed into the stone age. Just put a 100% tax rate on all entertainment revenue above a certain value or something.

This also goes for the entertainment industry. Corporate music, movie theaters charging $20 a ticket, I'm just tired of being extorted everywhere I go.

As for communist, I think all sports teams should be community owned like the Packers, so sure, I'll embrace that.

Man the Dodgers are trying to speed run the collapse of MLB. It's just not good for the sport that one team just hoards any top player that comes available. The league has to reign it under control, this is going to kill the sport.

I know the league is trying to expand, but why would any owner and any smaller market want to get involved after watching this winter play out?

Rumor: Terry Pegula "in talks" to sell majority ownership of Sabres to lifelong Sabres fan and current MLB star (and soon to be future billionaire) Juan Soto.

Now to find obscure photo of Soto in Sabres shirt as a child to prove my source.
a bit late to this, but i now 10000% choose to believe somewhere out there is a picture of an 8 year old juan soto in a 'buffalo sabres 2006 eastern conference champions" t-shirt. just let me pretend the pre-printed loser shirts went to the dom rep that year.
