VS Ovechkin

I am also baffled at anyone thinking svechnikov isnt playing like an all star this season. I wonder if the lacrosse moves pissed off enough people that they are actively seeking out other players

If they’re going to suspend guys for not showing up, they can’t start not naming people who are deserving (Malkin/not Crosby).

I agree with the concept but it gets a bit hairier with Crosby/Malkin as they each have missed 1/3+ of this season with injury. Whereas Ovechkin plays every game every year and doesn't have much excuse.

Somebody explain to me how CBJ gets two reps (before Korpisalo's injury) and CAR -- better than them in every way -- gets one. There's no way Korpisalo deserved All-Star recognition. That roster spot cost Svech, because if the goalie is Varlamov or Jarry (as it should be, and probably will be), then Svech over Barzal or Guentzel can happen. But since Korpisalo was an *at large* selection requiring PIT and NYI to send a forward each, it can't happen. That's a joke.

I'm beyond pissed Svech won't go. Just ridiculous.
That’s an odd thing to be pissed about.

The Metro had 4 defensemen before Dougie's injury compared to 2 D in every other division. I'd guess the replacement will be Teravainen as he was the Last Man In vote.
Fair enough. I just figured they were going to do a D for D.

If it can be anyone, agreed I would say Turbo.

I wonder how much choice/discussion with the teams there are in the replacement situation. Turbo was the guy the league originally had but he’s banged up. Can they tell the league, this guy is playing hurt, don’t pick him for the game? Also makes you wonder if Aho isn’t right either since Slavin keeps 4 D and 7 forwards in a 3 on 3 tournament. Svech too for that matter.

Or the league asked Rod and he said Slavin because he knows this is the only way he ever gets to go and he f***ing deserves it.

I think it depends- with the really big guys the NHL builds its marketing around like Ovechkin, the NHL really wants them there and gets pissy if they decide not to show up (1 game suspensions and the like). But a lot of potential all-stars over the years have quietly let the league know not to select them- Rod himself said in some interview years ago that after he went once, he always let the league know that he wasn't interested in going. So it's certainly possible that there's some behind the scenes stuff happening, most players would really rather have the break.
