That's kind of my vision as well... but again - we DON'T have a 2C right now and in a sane world, there shouldn't be anything preventing Lambert from taking that role this year or next

Without Monahan, that's a lot of pressure on Lambert... and we can't afford a better option in UFA

I mean maybe if Lambo takes that role then we can run Monahan with Lowry but his forecheck is molasses and weak. But also I don't trust this org to move off Monahan to let Lambo take that role.

I liked the idea of platooning C when we did it briefly with PLD/Scheif before Scheif just took it back over...
Vilardi-Scheif-Perfetti
Connor-Monahan-Lambert

Basically Lambert and Perfetti take 30-40% of the draws - at least to start the season and see what happens

In this contract, I would see Monahan as 2C for 2 seasons, 2RW/PP specialist for 1-2 season, 3C/3RW for 1-2 seasons

This all assumes Ehlers is gone for a D

Some regrettable contracts are being handed out this year. Montour, Toffoli, Tanev, Monahan (?) all looking ugly. I’m worried we are going to get worse this year, though. Any gains will have to be made by trade.

I'm ambivalent about Monahan.

The bad--he is slow and had an injury-plagued stretch till last season.

The good--almost everything else. He is younger than Scheifele, a better point-producer than Bryan Little (who was our 1C), great at special teams, in the face-off circle and in the dressing room.

$5Mx4 would be good value in the current cap environment, with the Jets still in win-now mode.

Plus Utah and Nashville getting considerably better and Chicago improving. We could easily miss playoffs next year.
